Hi, I HAVE HAD the Same problems (all my devises could connect to all the wifi-spots I tried accept my new 11" MBA 2011; the MBA could connect to the Router, but not to the Internet -> ISP failed)

My solution is strange but it workt for me:

    -create a new admin user

    -singin with that new user

-open system preferences -> Network then click on the "wifi" confection on the left side

-delete it by pressing the "-" button (make sure the lock isn't active)

-create a new "wifi" connection by clicking on the "+" button

    -click on apply

Now you can switch to your old account and you should get instant access to the Internet.

(May it is not nesessary to craete a new account for deleting and recreating the "wifi" connection, but as far as I know MacOS X Lion has several bugs which refer to account management for example the read/write right for your data if you upgrade. So as this walk around with the creation of a new admin user worked well for 3 of my problems I suggest that it's necessary.

I'm a programmer and I'm staying in contact with some Apple tecnical support personal, so please give me a feedback if this recreation of a wifi connection helped you solving your problems.

Please take the time of no more than a minute to reply. A short response like "WORKED" or "DID NOT WORK" would be enough and could help figuring out how many of us had the problem and how many got it resolved.

I decided to go ahead and write about these issues. I'm really amazed by how many people are affected by this (myself included). Feel free to chime in or spread the word. It would be great if Apple would be kind enough to address this whole deal outside of the capacity of support articles that do not help and generic descriptions found in software updates, which also have not helped the majority of us thus far.

Apple never replies on these forums. In fact, rarely do they ever read these forums. They are probably aware of this problem, but we'll have to wait until they get around to releasing a fix.

The only way to get Apple to move faster is to move the spot light on them. If anyone knows someone in the news media?

    Unles that happes we wait.

By the way, if it does reach the media. you can expect this thread to be deleted. Standard behavior for Apple. I love Apple products but HATE the company's PR.

I have been urging people to Tweet about this problem using the hashtag #mbawififail - that's MacBook Air Wifi FAIL. Include the hashtag #apple when you do.

Someone on this thread said he was a writer with CNET, but I don't know what became of that.

    Franz,

Numerous posters on this thread are, likewise, programmers, sysadmins, tech professionals, longtime computer users, etc.  I'm sorry to report that your solution has been tried by us, in some cases numerous times, and does not work in a long-term capacity.

Very well may be the case now, but several years ago I was surprised and impressed when an Apple engineer contacted me about an issue I had reported only on one of these discussion forums. He requested follow up detailed information. He seemed to be working on the issue and used the boards to identify users who were experiencing the problem he was working to resolve.

I haven't seen anyone report Apple engineers reaching out to them in this wifi issue in the Air, though.

    Thanks for the publicity Stephen!

The next Macbook problem that could use some attention is the complete freeze on wake, which I also have. The two combined have seriously affected the usability of my computer.

Remember to hit Twitter with a shorter version of your complaint, and the hashtags #mbawififail, #apple and anything else you can think of. It's the only way to get some attention that can bring actual pressure, and not just the echo chamber effect of us telling each other how much these problems suck - and boy, do they ever.

^ Sorry, I just don't do twitter, at all...

    Stephen,

Thanks for covering this issue with your story!  Hopefully, the additional publicity will speed up a solution.

BTW, based on the feedback in this forum even though I still have the issue, I am able to get around it by either toggling Bluetooth for my wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad -OR- by toggling my WiFi connection.

The issue does persist but either of these remedies does fix the issue for a while.

I also just started noticing on my MBA and ATD that I have to shut down and reboot as the screen does lock or go dark on its own.  This has only happened a couple of times, but is becoming more of a concern to me.

    Same here.

If I use the Apple magic mouse and the bluetooth keyboard the prefered network will not be found after the sleep mode.

So I delete the magic mouse and the bluetooth keyboard from the bluetooth configuration, and now wifi works.

But this can't be the only solution, this should be a tempory fix.

I'm using the brandnew MacBook Air (2011, 13", i5, 256GB SSD) - it is very annonying that this new machine has problems with the bluetooth and wifi-function (= basic functions).

I was hoping that 10.7.2. would fix this - but unfortunately I'm still waiting that it get fixed.

Now, the new MacBook Air is almost 3 months on the marked - and the problem isn't solved.

    Please Apple, solve this problem!

I have the same issue. After resuming from sleep and bluetooth is ON, my WiFi connection is dropped. I need to keep trying several times to specify the WIFi before it works.

If bluetooth is off, WiFi works perfectly and resumes quickly with no issues. I would keep BT off, but besides being a feature I bought the computer with (and so I expect it to work), I have bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse.

I therefore add my voice in asking Apple to please fix this once for all.

P.S. I tried everything else, resetting SMC, removing wifi certificates, removing WIfi connections. Nothing worked other than, again, turning off BT.

Yep - turn off Bluetooth and wifi connects straightaway from standby.  Simple as that.  So is there a hardware issue with antennas (Antennagate 2?).  It's a shame as I've bought more Apple hardware in the form of the magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard.

    Grr!

Thanks for covering the isue.  I am writing this on my iPad 1 while my new Macbook Air sits idle, unable to connect to the same public wifi network!  Disgusting to have my fancy new machine twiddling its electronic thumbs for something as basic as a wifi connection.

There is a new update for MacBook Pro and Air owners out there related to Thunderbolt issues "MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.2".

Anyone download and install yet?  Results?
