I have the same problem, my iPad is much slower than before in all aspects. Another thing i do not like is how Safari is now. The former version with the screens is much nicer, now it looks like Explorer.

Absolutely the same here!
My iPad 1 has become sooooo slow after iOS5 upgrade, I get no pleasure using my iPad anymore((
Apple please release somy upgrade to fix it, as it's not bearable now at all.

Yes, although I haven't noticed a slowdown on third-party apps, but I haven't checked out a lot of them since the update. The slowdown is definitely occurring with Safari. Pages take foreeeeeever to load, and it's become a pain and is no longer enjoyable to use.

You'll have to look for something unique on your iPad 1 which is slowing things down. I don't have any of the problems described here on my iPad 1 running iOS 5. Safari, in particular, is significantly faster in iOS 5.

Yup, same thing here. overall general slowness, Apps crash all the time (both apple and 3rd party). have to reboot to be able to startup some apps again. In general, wish I had not done the upgrade. And yes, agree with Mars2204, prior version of safari was much more fun to use, the tabs take up too much real estate. If I wanted tab browsing there are lots of other options out there to choose from.

same here iPad 1, IOS 5, good night. Browsing takes years, even the app store is slow. Wish i'd never installed IOS 5, some kind of deja vu. Apple takes testing to the public...

The same here. Not only it is slow, it somestimes freezes. The hand writing recognition (writiing in Chinese or English in the Chinese input mode) would just sit there and think about it for a while before returning a charater to pick. Switching language input method is slow. In addition, the reminder app is very slow in coming up and responding to input. Like other's input, I am also experiencing slowness in Safari operation and some 3rd party app's such as Logmein Ignition. I feel like I went back to the days of using a PC product again... Something has to be done. This is not right!

I found an interesting SOLUTION while browsing on Google. This discussion forum probably won't allow posting links, so just google the title "iOS5 Cloud Services Causing Crashes On iPad 1 – Resolved" and see it for yourself.
I haven't upgraded my iPad1 to iOS 5 yet, but after reading his blurb I might do so. If his solution also works for you, please let others here know if your iPad's speed improved and if you're satisfied.

I thought it was only me - apparently not. Does anyone know how do a down grade?
I use the ipad to show sales material on the photo app and the whole point, and the reason I bought it is the speed and ease of showing material to a prospectove customer.
I hope Apple takes this seriously.

it just doesn't work...
I used Pages and Keynote and Garageband extensively in ios4, with few problems. now, in ios5 they take quite literally several minutes to load, if they don't crash (usually a 50% chance).
I have been to my local Genius Bar and they suggested "restoring as new", as opposed to "restoring with backup". i took this advice, and did both (post ios5 upgrade) and performance is still just awful.
really loved this device up until now, and could even reliably use it for work. at the moment i have an expensive paperweight and am not at all pleased.
seems i have company here. are you listening apple?
