Thanks Oric1sg - I have trying to deal with this issue for months. I uninstalled Speedbit Video Accelerator and ITunes Store worked.
As regards the 100% CPU I finally found something that worked:

Did you go into the Add/Remove program inside the Control Panel?
Is Speedbit Video Accelerator listed as one of the installed program inside? If yes, just click to uninstall it.

I have been following this thread for weeks and here's what works for me on a pc with windows 7, 64 bit.
Disable my PC Tools Spyward Doctor with Antivirus. Uninstall the Apple software in the correct order as prescribed. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click Command Prompt and select Run as Admistrator, Type in "netsh winsock reset", press enter, then shut down computer. Wait 20 seconds or more for good measure then restart computer.
Then go to iTunes and download the 64 bit version for windows 7. Now, iTunes will work and I can sync my iPhone, etc. If I finish with iTunes and close the program or eject my iPhone I will have to repeat the whole process again to be able to access the iTunes store.
I would like to spend some money in the iTunes store, however I simply do not have enough time to go through this process everytime. It took me countless hours to arrive to this solution and be able to update my iPhone to iOS5.

This is the second time I've had this issue! After iTunes 10.4 update and now 10.5.
Does Apple not read these threads and see how many people are having the same issue? Fix it please, Apple.

Okay, so I've been following this thread and the one in the iCloud about not being able to log in as the problem seems to affect both. For the life of me I can't get either to work properly. What I have found is that if I run the command netsh winsock reset and then open iTunes immediately then I can access the store; however, after a minute or two, the store becomes unavailable again. And if I restart my computer it doesn't work either. I also notice that if I disable Bonjour I seem to be successful in accessing the iTunes store, but not if it's active. This leads me to believe that there's something going on with Bonjour that is creating the access issue.
I don't have any of the network cards previously mentioned, I don't use PC Doctor, netnanny, norton or anything else. The only things protecting my PC are Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials. And yes, I also had this problem with 10.4 and I am running 64 bit Vista.

I have also tried everything from antivirus software to removing all apple software. Itunes works fine as far as used to but I still cant access the itunes store. Someone else have a idea. Tired of spending endless hours tring to fix this problem. Im using vista , google, no added video card.

I've followed this thread and have attempted all suggestions that have worked for some....unfortunately I'm still unsuccessful.....I've noticed that this is the first post in almost a month....have the rest of you given up? Any new ideas?

Corinne - I am back to square ! sadly. I have also had issues with the sound from my laptop, and not really noticed that my iTunes store is inaccessible ONCE AGAIN. I re-tried Brian's formula, but it has done nothing. I am wondering if it is anything to do with QuickTime...I uninstalled QT and have not reinstalled..so if I have time this weekend I will reinstallQT and see what happens.
On another note: I tried to upgrade my iPhone to 5.o and that was a disaster...any comments on our issues most welcome Apple!
Happy Thanksgiving all!

To Windows 7 users:
I tried everything here and more form, other forums and what worked was to swith off Real Time protection of MS Security essential. ITune store worked and IPad sync worked too. I guess you have to disable real time virus protection and firewall.

The only thing that FINALLY worked for me was to uninstall my AT&T aircard sofrware. This advisory:
is what gave me the info and instructions I needed. If you're running Windows XP, the way to access your system information is start > run > MSINFO32.

I had to update my iTunes to allow access for the iPad and the same problems occurred with updating to 10.5 as occurred with updating to 10.4
I followed my previously advocated fix of uninstalling iTunes and components in a particular order and then re-installing the latest iTunes. With 10.5 this did not work!
I followed your lead and it works a treat! My issue was caused by LSP 'SpeedBit Video Accelerator'. Once the program was removed and the computer re-booted, iTunes Store opened without any further issue.
