I got a SSD for my macbook, and I am trying to load the installer but it's stuck on this screen:

The DVD drive sounds like it's looking for the files, but I now left it for 1 hour now and it won't boot.

So basically, I need a solution to this problem. I have also reset the PRAM, but that didn't work. FYI, my macbook's internal DVD drive is broken so I am using a external (USB) DVD drive.

Thanks in advance.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

    You are on Leopard (10.5.8)?

As far as I remember, Leopard did not support booting from a USB drive - you will need a firewire drive. That support was added in Snow Leopard.

Unfortunately, I can't help with that because I don't run Windows so I have no idea if that would work. But, a possible (very) round-about way: install using your install disk onto the USB drive. Clone that entire system to a firewire drive and then boot from it? Drive(s) must be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and, to be bootable, GUID partition scheme (if Intel) or Apple Partition Map (for Power PC).
