Yes, I am on Leopard. But this is a new hard drive, the hard drive is just blank. The boot DVD is 10.5 though. Is there also a way to 'burn' the Mac OS DVD from my Windows desktop into a firewire drive? I think that might work.

Unfortunately, I can't help with that because I don't run Windows so I have no idea if that would work. But, a possible (very) round-about way: install using your install disk onto the USB drive. Clone that entire system to a firewire drive and then boot from it? Drive(s) must be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and, to be bootable, GUID partition scheme (if Intel) or Apple Partition Map (for Power PC).
