MobileMe family force upgrade to iCloud

When I updated to iOS 5 I upgraded my Mobile Me account to iCloud. It warned me that I would not be able to manage the other accounts associated with the MobileMe family account which was fine. It did NOT warn me that the other memebers of my family would not be able to use their accounts unless they upgraded. Is there any way to let them continue using Snow Leopard and iOS 4? There are software reasons to keep them on the older OSes.

A mobileme family pack has multiple accounts and thus multiple AppleIDs, that is kinda the point. If they really merge all family MobileMe accounts into a single AppleID they have some problems. However, Sjazbec I suspect you misunderstood my point. The other accounts are for my other family members, not extra email addresses I added to my MobileMe account. They are full accounts, or where under MobileMe.

Ok, I get that ( I never used MM so I don't know it's features or how the accounts are used ) .

The fact remains that icloud will only work with a single Apple-ID. Of course every member of your family could log in to www.icloud.com and move his/her old ID to become a icloud ID - but the whole syncing features will just be pointless. Everybody in your family then must own his/her own iOS5 device, as iOS5 is no "multi-user" system.

Also in order to sync more then one iOS5 device ( and/or to a Mac or PC ) all these devices and computers need to be singed in with one and the same Apple-ID or there simply is no syncing at all happening. This would limit icloud to be just backups of the account data to the cloud.

I don't want to sync between devices. I just want my family members to have the same access they had before I upgraded my account. The issue is that Apple killed their accounts when I upgraded mine, and did not give me any warning that this would happen.

TZ I filled feedback before I posted this.

With a Family Pack, the master account holder and the sub-account holders can each migrate to an individual iCloud account by going to http://me.com/move and entering their email address and password (not www.icloud.com).

The order they do this in is immaterial; if the master account moves first it can no longer administrate the sub-accounts. If a sub-account moves first the master account cannot create a new sub-account to replace it.

Once migrated each account becomes a full iCloud account entirely separate from the others. The master account holder will get the 20GB storage upgrade free until June 30th 2012; the sub account holders will not, and will have only the basic 5GB.

My MobileMe family account members didn't lose their access when I upgraded.

Their email addresses still function though I haven't asked them about iDisk access etc.

All but one of them has since migrated to iCloud and iOS5 though most of them aren't working on Mac computers except for my wife and I.

I do have concerns about how Photostream works, can't delete unwanted photos from Photostream even though I've deleted them from iPhoto.

I also wonder about the future of iDisk after June 30 2012. I use it to distribute video previews to clients and I'm concerned that I may lose this function completely beyond next June.

... i think i lost out with this one... i had a family account and had not yet created all the users... i upgraded to Lion, and subsequently to iCloud, and now I cannot create the sub-accounts 😟 Thus i've paid for 4 accounts, and can only use one.

iDisk has no future beyond 30 June 2012: it will be terminated on that date and you need to make alternative arrangements before then. This page may help:

That's correct: but you could only have created MobileMe sub-accounts, which have a limited life anyway. You can create additional iCloud accounts from scratch for family members at no cost. You may need to have a different contact email address for each, but you can set up free Yahoo, Hotmail or Google accounts to do this.

Well, now that iCloud is free, you can create as many accounts for your family as you want, as they are all separate now, so in that respect, you haven't lost out.

MobileMe Family member accounts only got 5GB of space too, so you have not lost the 20GB extra either (only until June 2012)
