Q: My apple tv won't recognize my apple id

Everytime I try to sign to my iTunes store on my Apple tv it tells me that my apple id or password is incorrect.  This is the only apple id I have ever had.  I did change my passwor on October 13 after multiple probles with my mobile-me to iCloud transition.  I have had my apple tv for over 6 months, so I tried both my previous Apple id password (as well as the new one) but it does not accept either of them and even though I have homesharing "On" it doesn't do me any good.

Also, it will not do the software update to 3.4, it tells me my software is up to date.  I reset apple tv yesterday and started from scratch to no avail.  No problems with my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad2 or my iPhone, only with Apple TV.    HELP!

Hi, thanks for the answer.  Where do I check the iTunes Store location on the Apple TV?,

I have used the same apple id to buy all my Apple products on line and on my local Apple store and I always used the same Apple ID.  Am I missing something I should have known.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Settings > General > iTunes Store

Have you purchased/rented anything from the Apple TV before.

Does your new password contain anything other than alphanumeric characters.

No I have not purchased anything from the iTunes Store from my apple tv.  My new password has numbers and letters and one Capital letter.  The problem is also that even though under "Computers" it shows my iTunes library, when I try to play music, it says there is no content to my library and as I mentioned before, I have homesharing on all my devices and no problems with any of them except Apple TV.

Thank you so much for helping me.  I really don't know what to do.  I was thinking of resetting it again to factory settings and start from scratch.  By the way the store location shows correctly United States and on time zone my correct city.

Again, thanks for assisting me.  Any ideas, should I reset to factory settings.

What type of security are you using for your wifi network.

Are you using DNS settings supplied by your ISP or have you introduced your own.

Does the address entered into your iTunes account exactly match that of your credit card.

My internet provider is Time Warner and have a modem and router and a WPA password and yes using DNS but have my own settings to a wireless network.  Yes my iTunes personal info matches my billing info I am constantly buying music, books, apps and software and without problems sharing it with my other devices.

I am actually not trying to by anything through my Apple TV, I was just trying to make sure all my library music, photos and such is available on my Apple TV.  I subscribe to Netflix and have no problem with that on my Apple TV.

Should I reset to factory settings, since my problems started yesterday when I tried to upgrade the software?

I thank you for your advise in advance.

The Apple TV does not like you using DNS settings other than those supplied by your ISP, although if it worked before it may not be your problem.

Sorry I'm now a little confused about what exactly isn't working. Are you trying to purchase content from the iTunes Store or use homesharing to view the content in your iTunes library.

Sorry, you are right, I'm jumping all over the place.  I went and rechecked and my ISP address and info is been supplied by my provider.

The reason I ended up going to the iTunes store on my apple tv was to check and see if it would acknowledge my password, but I am not trying to buy anything trough the Apple TV.  I just wanted to be able to see my library content as I did before this attempt to upgrade, which is the first to tell me my Apple ID/or password was incorrect and it just went downhill from there.  I wanted to be able to mirror with my iPad 2.

I hope this will clear up all the fog and will allow you to assist me better.  By the way, thank you so much for your efforts.

OK, the homesharing password and ID arent the same thing as the iTunes Store ID, you can use your store info for homesharing but don't have to, I think even Apple themselves are confusing people here but let's not digress.

For homesharing to work, you need to enter the same info in homesharing in iTunes (In the advanced menu) as you enter in homesharing on the Apple TV (Settings > Computers), can you check you have done this

Yes I have done all the steps and my homesharing on my Apple TV is "on", as well as on my iTunes, it just started today telling me that there is no content on my library, even though under "Computers" it does show my correct library name as it appears on my iTunes.

I had access to all this prior to my trying to upgrade my Apple TV software yesterday and it all started because it asked for my my Apple ID and when I entered it it told me it was incorrect (I tried a few times and then reset it), and basically that is how all this happened.

So, I guess that my problem is that my Apple TV is not accepting my Apple ID and therefore not allowing me to view my iTunes Library even though it list said library.  Don't know what else to do.  Any other ideas?

Again, thank you so much for any input.

At what point and what are you doing when it asks for your ID.

Have you tried restarting iTunes and your router.

    Morning,

After I reset the apple tv (recommended by apple tv user guide) 2 days ago, it asked me for apple id and stated that the id/password was incorrect but everything seem to be set correctly until I realized that my iTunes Library on my Apple TV showed no content even though homesharing was on and I was able to sign on to my Netflix account.  That is when I tried to sign to the iTunes Store to see if it would recognize my Apple ID, and after a few failures, I came to this site for help.

    It's a straightforward port-forwarding issue.

You need to forward ports to the internal ip address of your apple tv as follows:

    TCP 123

    TCP 3689

    UDP 5353

    TCP 80

    TCP 4343

    TCP 53

This may also solve other problems you may have with homesharing...

    Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with a similar issue.

While my Apple TV 2 connects seamlessly with my Netflix account and all the iTunes libraries on all of my networked Macs (via Home Sharing), my Apple TV 2 simply won't accept my iTunes password.

Here's what I've tried so far...

1.) Changed the password, more than once, always with the latest requirements (i.e. capital letters and numbers).

2.) Checked Apple TV's software (firmware) and confirmed it's the latest version.

3.) Installed Lion and updated all system software on all my networked Macs.

4.) Updated Apple Wireless Router with latest firmware.

The only remaining suspect would be my AT&T broadband modem (connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet). Could my AT&T modem be blocking my Apple TV 2 from accessing the iTunes store? Even if I'm not using it for wireless?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!
