Q: I think my Macbook Pro battery is going to explode!

I think my Macbook Pro battery is going to explode!

My MBP model is MA896. It is a horrible product. The quality is worst I have ever seen. I can't believe it's a product from Apple.

Same story to the battery. Although is an old battery. It started dying since 3 years ago (1 year after I bought it!). I didn't use it for almost one year. I put it in my storage. Last time I checked it. It has been exploded! I didn't drope it or break it for sure. The stuffs in the battery become bigger than normal. And I'm afarid that one day it may explode like a bomb.

I attached the pictures below.

it appears as though your battery has become sulfated.  Cease using it IMMEDIATEY!

Same problem!  I have a 17-inch Macbook Pro from Oct. 2007 Model A1229. The battery (A1189) just overheated and expanded on the back side. I had a difficult time removing it from the case. I have older Macs and PCs with batteries that this never happened to. I called Apple and they told me that it was just too old and I was lucky it didn't happen sooner, and if I wanted, I could order a new one $129! Even after I just bought a new i7 for my daughter's birthday today!  I am very disappointed. At least they could have worked with me on it for a replacement. It is obviously defective.

If you have AppleCare, give them a call.  If not, take your MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP.  Only Apple can adivse if you are entitled to a free battery or not.

Your other alternative in view of your above statement is to call Customer Relations -1-800-767-2775.

ronkma: Your battery is not defective. Swelling/expansion is one of several typical failure modes for old MBP batteries, and at four years, yours is old — it lasted longer than most do. The average usable lifespan for batteries of that vintage is 2-3 years. Though the swelling is disconcerting and can, in fact, cause damage to the computer if it's allowed to continue with the battery in place, it is not an indication of any defect and not cause for replacement under your long-ago-expired warranty or AppleCare coverage.

And by the way, swelling and exploding are entirely different things. MBP batteries don't explode. Sometimes they swell.

I gave up to ask for any replaccement or repair. I just want to tell Apple, they should be shame about the product.

I just want to tell Apple,

Then do so by either calling Customer Relations which was previously suggested, and complain on the Product Feedback website.

These are user-to-user forums where everyday folk post "technical" questions and offer answers to each other voluntarily.  No one here works for Apple nor does Apple get involved in responding as they do not visit these message boards.
