Just installed it, so far so good. I have not had as many crashes as some users and as long as my MacBook Pro 15" i7 did not sleep it usually behaved (with the exception of some Flash related crashes - which might just be Flash acting normally).

My computer seemed to boot faster. It typically got a long pause with the pinwheel thing on the gray screen like it was looking for something before it woudl finish booting. That no longer happens and I'd say it is a good 15-20 seconds quicker to boot now.

Have to see if it survives a few sleep/wake cycles before I know it's fixed. The Photo Booth trick did not usually crash mine, just waking from sleep was the trigger (in addition to some random black screens and cascading spinning beach balls that only happened after sleeping)

I have 10.6.8 installed, and after reading everybody complaining about the BSOD decided to postponed the upgrade to Lion ... when I "software update" I don't get the patch ... maybe that's because I don't have Lion ?

    I have a Mid-2010 i7 15inch MBP

I'll wait an see from you guys ...

Crashed on me after installing the update as well. I couldn't reproduce it with Photobooth, but there's definitely still a bug lurking somewhere.

Can we find a consistent way to trigger this bug with the new update?

It seems ok for me, non BSODs so far...

    Lion 10.7.2 is required.

Finally I'm done with the BSOD thanks to that update. Tried after first reboot, no crash in Photobooth, while using ppt (I had several times) and even using Final Cut. Tried ugain after a second reboot, still okay. Hope it will last.

For those who still have BSOD, keep pushing and I hope Apple will soon make another update for you.

Anyway, it's like using a real laptop again...

Bye everybody, it's been a pleasure following this thread and its 126 pages (apart from the reason I followed it...)

Update worked for me. I started following this thread on page 40. 80 pages later I can use my computer again. Amazing.

Note: I had to restart / check for the update twice before it took. First time I restarted it was after some other programs timed it out and it didn't take effect. Checked and updated again, restarted and voila. Hope that helps!

So this is great news, I know. The update prevented a crash for more than 30MINS of playing with the Discrete Graphics. (where before it wouldnt last for 30Secs).

This all sounded good to me, I did a few restarts, I played with photobooth, put a 720p video on and its ALL good.

Until just a few mins ago: I switched manually from integrated to Discrete after a restart and BOOMMMM! Another BSOD.

Doing what apple is telling me in the article: Sending it for the authorized resller to fix for FREE. Apple is servicing afffected laptops for 2 years from date of purchase. This is just GREAT news.

Thanks everyone, without you, everyone of you, our expensive 2010 macbook pros would have been USELESS.

Hence the new version of NVResman and NV50HAL. This means this crashlog happened after the update.

    Thanks everyone, again.

The update is working so far, everything I did to trigger the BSOD it's not doing it anymore.

After  almost 4 months I finally can work normally with Lion!

    To All,

Before people leave the board en masse, I just want to say a big THANK YOU!

I have a mid-2010 MBP, 15", i7.  I'm still running 10.6.8 thanks to this forum.  I think it's quite likely that I would have had massive problems, and the advice given here kept me up to date, all the way through today, when it seems that a fix arrived.

I'm looking forward to upgrading this weekend.  Thanks again to all who contributed here.

I have updated and still have crashes when I go into versions in pages.

It's a pity and a shame for apple...

Hope they continuos working on a final and for-all-user fix!

Ditto to what Jeffois said, thank you to everyone who has posted your experiences with the BSOD, with Apple CSRs and Geniuses, etc. We really raised this to Engineering's awareness and they found a remedy that seemingly works for most people.

For those who still suffer from the BSODs, definitely take advantage of the 2-year extended repair mentioned in their knowledgebase regarding this issue. Most of us were over one year, some are probably close to 2 years since purchase date. If this didn't resolve the issue for you, do not hesitate. They've acknowledged the problem, issued what they believe to be the fix (and seemingly works for a good number of us) and so whatever problems are left is clearly a hardware issue. Don't let your 2 year timeframe expire!

I've installed the update and so far, it appears to be working fine. Haven't had a BSOD in a while, and it appears to be switching graphic cards as normal (although for some reason, it appears iStat Menu doesn't show it, gfxCardStatus does show that both cards are being used).

The only thing I noticed strange is that in Photo Booth, from time to time, displaying the effects shows some kind of momentary video corruption. Some white pixels. I haven't got still a reproduceable test case, but it sure happens to me a little. Don't know if that's normal (never used Photo Booth before!) or it's a sign of some underlying problem. But at least now I appear to be able to work.

Let's see on the following days what happens.

As a side note, about one hour before Apple made the fix public, out of frustration I wrote an email to Tim Cook regarding this issue . If I get a response I guess it's going to be: check for updates... Murphy is always side by side with me, that's for sure!

Seems to be working for me as well. Since updating it is flipping back and forth between the cards. I was certainly having the issue but it was much less frequent for me than it was for others. Perhaps that might be the difference, if it was frequent this fix may not work?

Crossing fingers that I am right and things are ok.

You need the 10.7.2 update before you can update the software that apple just released with the patch. My macbook hasn't experienced any crashes so far even with photobooth or other apps like the app store. Here's the link of the problem and the solutions for you depending if you have lion or snow leopard.

Hope this helped. Finally I can stop following this thread. Thanks to everyone in this board
