Q: Delete Photostream Photos off iCloud

On my ipad i love to take pictures and i also like that they get streamed to all devices! I'm just missing the delete button! I can't delete any of the photos that are streamed! Is there any way this is possible? It would mean  deleting the photo off the icloud server which most likely requires some utility! I just want to get rid off some photos i take!

I totally agree with you.  Apple has Netflixed us.  They assume you ONLY take photos with your phone and that you never take a picture you don't like.  They let you show your Photo Stream on Apple TV, but why would you with the bad photos included that you can't delete.  I have hundreds of MobileMe albums with thousands of pics taken with a "real" camera with good lenses.  I've invested many hours in building albums to share with my family and friends.  When MobileMe goes away next June, there is no alternative offered by Apple to what they axed.  Same for iWeb.  They suckered us in and left us high and dry, just like Netflix.  Their president would love to get the customers back they lost with their boondogle idea./

Please send suggestions to Apple. Tim Cook has said they are open to suggestions to bringing MobileMe functions to iCloud.

Why would you show your Photo Stream on Apple TV with bad pics in it?  Apple employees who created Photo Stream probably don't own a "real" camera or take many pictures.  They should have let the Aperture team handle this.

I did, but it will be too late even if they do something.  I've already replaced iWeb with Zenfolio, and I suppose I will have to rebuild hundreds of albums in Flickr now to replace MobileMe galleries and then notify hundreds of people of the change.  Sorry I invested in dollars and time in iWeb.  Even sorrier I gave Apple money for MobileMe and spent hundreds of hours building albums there.  What's next?  I might as well buy an Android phone.  Maybe Google won't jerk the rug out from under their customers.  Companies are just not considerate of their customers in their quest for higher profits and this quarter's earnings/stock price.

Anyway, try to do that (go to icloud.com) from your iPad in Safari and let me know if you can login... I thought IOS 5 would free us from the PC... There is still some room for improvement obviously.

I'm not having any trouble getting to iCloud and I have the latest Safari version on my Macs nd iPad/iPhone.  I just don't want to reset photo stream in order to delete three or four pictures.

I just don't get the login with my iPad (of course running IOS 5). I just get a screen showing me 3 options: how to install iCloud on this device, How to use find my iPhone and how to use find my friends.

I'm afraid resetting the photostream is the only way (at least for now) to delete photos from the photostream on all your devices.  IMHO, photostream is so limited in its capabilities that it's mostly useless.

I was playing around this morning with my iPad 2 and iMac.  I use Aperture 3.2, which can be used with photostream (I'm sure iPhoto works in a similar way).  Here's what I can do:

    1.  Copy photos from an existing Aperture album into my photostream and they show up on my iPad.  Once they are in the Aperture photostream, I cannot delete them.  However, I can move them to another album.

    2.  Take a photo from my iPad, and it shows up in my photostream in Aperture (it also show up in my camera roll on my iPad).  In Aperture, I can move (copy) that photo to an existing album or a new album.  I can do the same on my iPad, e.g., move the photo to a new or existing album on my iPad.

What might work to save only desired photos is (1) move selected photos to a temporary album in Aperture, (2) turn off photostream in Aperture and iPad, (3) reset photostream at iCloud.com, (4) turn photostream back on in Aperture and iPad, (5) move selected photos from temporary album back to Photostream from which photos will be pushed back to iPad's photostream.  Whew!  They sure don't make it easy!

For my workflow, I might use Photostream as an easy way to get photos taken with my (soon to be acquired) iPhone onto my iMac.  From the iMac, I can use Aperture to move selected photos to a new album, edit and sort those photos, and prep a new album folder on my hard disk that can sync with iTunes to show off the photos.

I have been getting that message several times a day for a week now. I wonder if Apple knows how to fix their server now that Jobs has died.

If you use Google Chrome and follow fremacusa's instructions, it will not give you the server failure and it will delete the photos.

Seems from what I've read even the reset option in icloud.com doens't actually delete anything.  another forum mentioned that what it would do is this:

Let's say you have an iPad with photostream off.  and with your iPhone photostream on, you take a picture, it uploads to the cloud.  Then if you do a reset to the cloud, then turn on your iPad, that photo you took on your phone won't download to the iPad.  So it's not like the photo really is ever deleted on the cloud (until 30 days). It's more like it's resetting the old versus the new with devices that enable the cloud.

Another tip I saw was if you turn off wifi, then your photos won't auto upload to the photostream so gives you a chance to review before they go up so to speak.  I think someone put it best that it's not intended to store your photos forever.  It's intended to allow multiple devices to get to one photo and save it off.

    my 2 cents!
