Oct 25, 2011 12:13 PM in response to stevefromracineby Ronda Wilson,Hi, Steve. Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You can probably use the card reader. According to Wikipedia:
SDHC devices are backward compatible with SD memory cards.
However, it is most likely that you can't use HDSD cards in it, since they were developed after the iBook G4 was discontinued and it probably won't recognize them. I have a Kodak camera which I bought in 2005 that is in the same boat.
You can read more about SD cards and compatibility issues with SDHD in the Wikipedia article:

Jan 16, 2012 11:45 AM in response to stevefromracineby carolineuk,I have a SONY HD camera and have sucesffully used my SD card reader OR the camera plugged into the machine, to get HD files onto my ibook.
I use Final Cut Express which reads AVHDC files.
The processor is working harder but it can be done.
ive not tried an HD card reader....but im assuming you want the HD card reader to read the HD files right?
well using an SD card reader can also do the same.
either way...plug in the cam or use the card reader....it will work.
ibooks never to be underestimated
hope that helps.
