I tried to do my very best and some many things of that what the community suggest. But it doesn't work.

    My situation MacBook Pro (2010):

    1. I upgraded to iPhoto '11 (v 9.2)

    2. Started the new iPhoto and submitted the question for conversion of the old database

    3. the process started very quickly and the progress bar shows that the program was working

    4. After the progress bar closed, the database entries of the old Library were shown on the left side of the screen. Everything seems to be okay.

    5. But now in the middle of the screen the progress circle is working continously and doesn't finish. No pictures, no further entries.

My database is only 20GB and should not be caused the issue.

If I close and restart iPhoto, the entire process starts again with the same result.

    Any suggestions?

    Regards,

    Thomas

    Option 1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.

    If that fails:

    Option 2

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    Thanks Terence,

what do you mean in option 1 with using the library from the automatic backup? Is this the time-machine backup or do there any other backup files exist?

In addition I used the Library Manager and made a 1:1 copy of my old library, but the same failure occurs.

what do you mean in option 1 with using the library from the automatic backup?

It's an option in the dialogue you get in when you hold the command and alt keys on launch.

Is this the time-machine backup or do there any other backup files exist?

It's a back up of a single specific file in your Library.

In addition I used the Library Manager and made a 1:1 copy of my old library, but the same failure occurs.

But I believe the instructions say to use the Rebuild command in Library Manager, no?

Thanks Chip George! Dragging the iPhoto Library Backup to the iPhoto '11 app worked for me!

It puzzles me that my iPhoto Library Backup is bigger than my iPhoto Library...
