Q: how to uninstall Final Cut

My company use to share a copy of final cut knowing it would only work accross the network on one machine at a time. We use it enough that we needed another copy so we bought one. Do I now need to uninstall and reinstall with the new serial number or is there an easier way to do this?

Thanks,

Jeff

Remove the file "Final Cut Studio System ID" located at:

    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/ProApps.

Empty the trash and launch one of the Studio apps.

You will be prompted for the serial number.

Thanks! It also took deleting the Studio Apps file. But it worked!

We had/have the same situation at our office. Bought a second Final Cut Studio and now i try to remove the old one from one of our machines. But simply deleting the "Final Cut Studio System ID" (how it's described everywhere on the net) doesn't work. It still starts with the old serial number. Disconnecting the computer from the LAN has no effect.

What do mean by "It also took deleting the Studio Apps file"? The Final Cut App File itself? The one in the application folder?

    Thanks

    Andre

If you want to fully remove all elements of FCS in preparation for a reinstall, Digital Rebellion's FCS Remover (free download from the website) is the way to go.

A complete reinstall is exactly what i would like to avoid. It's so time consuming.

But it seems like i have no choice. Hopefully i can at least leave the content folders intact. That would be a big time saver.

Download the software and take a look. It gives you options on what you delete.

fwiw - this is why I have created disk images of the entire FCS install package and store them on a firewire drive.

An installation consists of firing up the drive, mounting all the disk images on the computer's desktop and launching the installer from the disk image. Once I enter the serial number, the installation runs along without any additional interaction. The installer finds the next disk as needed. The entire process can be done in 20-30 minutes.

If you are doing a reinstall on a machine for other reasons, I would suggest using Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager to backup your FCS preferences before you remove the program.

Once everything is reinstalled, you can selectively reapply the prefs as desired to bring things back to the previous user setup.

you can also create dmg files of the discs before hand and it installs way quicker. it takes about 45 minutes as opposed to a few hours off of the discs.
