Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

My 4Gs is not doing well with battery life. I will fully charge it overnight to 100%. When I leave for work and look at the phone an hour later its goes to 90%. 3 hours into my day it goes to 77% and still  have not used the phone yet. By 7 hours into my day and 2 phone calls totaling 15 minutes the phone reads 47%.

What's going on. My iPhone 3G would last for days without a charge.

There is a list of fixes that really improved  my battery life a lot; it' s normal now

After 50 minures of use and 21 hours of standby the battery is at 88%

Interesting suggestion by a few people to turn off calendar in Notification Center (leaving alerts and lock screen on).  Early results are I am getting 4-6 minutes of usage and very little battery loss in standby 1% in two hours). Early results but worth a try! Thanks!

I thought I had solved my problems. I let the phones battery run all the way down and then fully charged it. It helped for a couple of days. But recently my battery life is way worse than before. I've been charging it 2 and 3 times a day with minimum usage. I always turn off apps running in the background. Whenever I try to view my usage and standby time it's always blank even if it's been 5 seconds after a full charge. It's also overheated twice. And it cuts off by itself and turns back on until today it turned off by itself and it took me forever to get it back on. Apple has been trying to contact me and ask me questions about it but I've been busy and missin their calls. Hopefully I can get into contact with them soon and figure out a solution.

Iphone 4s battery draining to fast ?.

Back the phone's contents up to the computer and then restore, it improves the battery life,

glitch on 4s apple is working on it.

What appears to be happening with 4s is that a corrupt contact causes the app to crash, which writes a crash log to the disk. The system then relaunches the app to try and continue syncing the contacts, it crashes again, writes another log and so on. It gets stuck in a crash loop, which prevents the OS from sleeping, and hence drains the battery. Removing the contact that causes the crash will break the cycle.

backing the phone's contents up to their computer and then restoring it resets the cycle improves the life.

I haven't read all 128 pages here so this may be old news?  I found my Iphone 4S CPU was being used 80% all the time, around the clock...

Here's a screen shot from my iphone showing the high CPU access from a process called calaccessd. I disabled Calender in Notifications and the process went away. This fix seems to solve my battery drain problem for now... My battery used to drain 10% every 15-30 minutes or so and took much longer to charge than my 3GS. This was because my CPU was always running at 80%!  My phone used to be a nice handwarmer... now it's cool to the touch

I'm hoping for a patch so I can turn back on the Calendar Notifications...

It's quite ridiculous that my IPhone 3GS would hold a battery charge longer than my 4S. The battery in the 4S is supposed to be bigger and better??

I was expecting battery life to even be better than that of the iPhone 4, which was excellent when I owned one briefly but returned due to the antenna issues.

I really hope I don't have to end up returning my 4S also. But if nothing is resolved within my 30 return period, I will probably jump ship.

Apple clearly stated the standby battery life of the 4s is significantly less than that of the 4 (200 hours vs. 300 hours, respectively).

I'm still less than impressed with the battery life (one of the main reasons I went for Apple instead of Android) and really hope Apple fixes it soon with an update.

Going off of the suggestion to turn off notifications for the calander, I just turned off all notifications.  I really like the notifications pull down and consider this a temporary fix, but it's really not too bad...I can still set the baners to show up, and of course the red-circle numbers show up on apps that need attention (ie phone, messages etc).

It seems to me that this has helped.  I used it a bit at work today (Pandora, some games, texts, and a little browsing).

    Usage: 3hrs, 42min

    Standby 11hrs, 10min

14% battery left (from 100% this morning)

This is a far cry from the 200hr standby time they call for (yes I know usage effected this, but in comarison to my coworkers 4, this is unacceptable).

Using a system monitor (System Max) I have also noticed that no matter what, at least half, to all of my memory is always being used.  CPU load is a minimum of about 40% idle as well...this is all with wifi off, spot search unchecked, bluetooth off, notifications off, all apps closed, siri to ear off, ping off...etc....

Hurry Apple....I don't want to have to make the hard choice of waiting for you, or returning it before I can't.

Ok I did some testing and here are my results. With 3G cellular data turned on this is what I get for results when I am at 70 percent.

    files.me.com/kc7gnm/ovdq0b

    files.me.com/kc7gnm/7jhiy8

    files.me.com/kc7gnm/nim8xj

These first 3 files show my results with cellular data turned on.

    47 min Usage at 90%

    1 hr 15 min Usage at 80%

    1 hr 41 min Usage at 70%

That is about 30 min average every 10%. The would equal only 5 hours of Usage for a full discharge. Probably less.

Now here it is with wifi on but cellular data turned off.

    files.me.com/kc7gnm/92gtb8

    files.me.com/kc7gnm/rli1io

    files.me.com/kc7gnm/tbhcd3

Now I didn't turn off cellular data until about 93% so the first one will be off a little.

    48 min Usage at 90%

    1 hr 53 Min Usage at 80%

    3 hr 13 Min Usage at 70%

At this rate I should get about 11-12 hours of usage time out of my phone. That is double what it was when the 3G cellular data is enabled. I realize that 3G does use more power but even when you are on wifi with cellular data turned on it still drains just as fast as it does on 3G alone. My conclusion is there is probably a software problem with the 3G data that isn't letting the wifi take full control of the data when it has wifi.

WHAT IS YOUR UASGE :just stanby or calls and web?   because on stanby usage get up anyhow

I'm talking about overall battery life. Not just standby. Mine seems to deplete by 1% every 2mins or so whilst doing something simple like browsing safari (on wifi). On standy I get around 2% an hour. Which is nowhere near the Clearly Stated 200.

I may gave that a try. Thanks for the advice. I turned off quite a few of the locations services stuff which made some improvement but not significant.

By the way, it won't hurt much to return the handset if the issue isn't fixed without your return period. We can always buy it again once and IF Apple do issue a fix. I got nothing to lose really, apart from a bit of hassle. Backing up phone and going back to my 3GS for a while

It is usage not standby. There are two differnt numbers. look at the pictures I posted if you want to know standby time. Also I was using the web and apps pretty heavy. The usuage time is the time the screen is on also because I don't listen to music much on my iphone.
