I have a old MacBookPro 2GHZ with Intel Core Duo and OSx 10.6.8. On this Mac i can´t upgrade to Lion.

How can i use the iCloud with my MacBook to sync my adressbook and iCal to the iCloud?

Thanks for the answer

Without 10.7.2 you will not be able to use iCloud. You will need to find a third party solution. Google has a calendar and addressbook that may work.

I came across the 10.6: Add iCloud Calendar in iCal discussion, followed the instructions and successfully set up iCloud in Snow Leopard. I only tested one appointment but was able to create on iPhone then view using iCal and iCloud. Then I modified the same event using iCal and iCloud and all changes were updated correctly on all devices.

If this information is helpful you may want to drop a thank you to the original source.

As someone who just purchased a 17" MB Pro 2.3GHz core i7 Processor running OS X 10.6.8, I think it is downright thievery for Apple to require me to purchase a new OS in order to run iCloud. Especially considering iCloud is a service Apple expects to charge a useage fee for (for storage over 5GB).

I will not be buying a new operating system anytime soon.

Well icloud is a feature of this new OS . It is not the continuation of MobileMe, but a new product built right into the core of that OS.

If you just purchased your machine, you should be able to get Lion free of charge (if you want it):

A lot of people would say you are very lucky to have 10.6.8 on a new(?) Mac. You can always go forward quite cheaply, or perhaps free in your case, but not back. There have been recommendations here to get a refurbished Mac with 10.6.x rather than a new one to avoid being forced to have Lion.

As someone else said, if you did buy your mac with a few weeks before or after Lion came out you can upgrade for free. But really, even if its not free $29 bucks, thievery? really? and a 17" starts at $2500 and $29 bucks is too much for you?

    get a grip ....

I'm getting tired of Apple playing the big brother. It has changed a lot since the '90's. Where is this new player that could "think" different?

That's up to you, staying where you are is always an option.

Apple may provide a no cost solution for Snow Leopard users. A little more info is available in another discussion, click here.

I had the same problem and this worked for me.

I have a new iPhone 4S, a MacBook Pro and a MacBook both with Snow Leopard (10.6.8). I had no problem syncing my Google email accounts with my phone and do not need iCloud for that. But I had a lot of problems trying to sync my Contacts and Calendars. After much experimenting and hours on the phone with a senior Apple tech support guy, I was able to sync my two Calendars (work & home). I have only partially solved the Contacts syncing issue.

First, contrary to what people are hearing, iCloud actually does work with Snow Leopard, at least partially. You can create an iCloud account via your iPhone or iPad and iTunes will recognize that you are syncing calendars and contacts via iCloud. In fact, it warns you that if you also sync via USB cable, you are likely to encounter some duplicates. And that is accurate.

Second, I could not get calendar syncing to work between iCal and iCloud. iCal in 10.6.8 just does not seem to have the ability to do it. It gets complicated since I think it is trying to use iSync to make it happen. It's very messy to setup and I finally gave up. However, I was able to get my calendars to sync by using BusyCal <http://www.busymac.com/index.html>. It uses iCal's database, is a much better calendar, and has the capability to easily sync each of my calendars with iCloud.  It is not free.

Third, I can get my Contacts to sync between my laptop, iPhone and iCloud... sort of. Based on the Apple tech guy's suggestions, I am syncing my iPhone with iCloud wirelessly and my Address Book on my laptop via USB cable through iTunes. The Apple Tech guy said this approach "should" work. He said the master list of contacts would now be stored on iCloud and "should" be syncing with my laptop and iPhone. And it does, almost. My contacts are is mostly in sync. It's not perfect... yet. I'm still working on it.
