I can't pinpoint when it started, but recently Safari (5.1.1) has stopped resolving URLs unless I add the dot.whatever suffix. Am I alone in this plight?

    No.  I regularly click on my bank website only to find an animated icon go to the eyeglasses in the upper left and a local URL come up in the window.  It happens on other websites at random.   It seems to happen most often if It try to navigate with the keyboard.  With the mouse it is more forgiving.

    Safari will complete the url of sites you have visited. If you have cleared Safari's History or haven't visited a site for a long time such that it rolls off the History list, Safari won't automatically complete the url.

    Try hitting in address bar like;

    <WebSiteName>/ <enter key>

    For Example:

    ibm/ <enter>

    "/" after site name does the trick.
