Jul 5, 2011 8:40 PM in response to Macsterguyby Mike Retondo,I have the same problem with the Twitter app 2.1.1. I'm running 10.6.8. I can't believe a fix hasn't been found for this yet. It's been over a month and a half.

Jul 8, 2011 12:55 AM in response to Macsterguyby kriegalex,Hi everyone,
For all those which used a trick to install apps like Angry Birds for free, don't forget that you are using MASReceipt from another app, like often Twitter, so App Store thinks that your Angry Bird app is Twittter and is not up to date.
Hope it helps, cheers

Jul 17, 2011 2:52 PM in response to Macsterguyby Robert Butcher1,I have a similar problem regarding the Twitter App for Mac OS, with a little different spin. My App Store icon in my dock has a number 1 permanently there signifying I have an update. When I launch the App Store and go to the "1 Update Available", it says I have an update for the Twitter App (yet I have never downloaded this App before). When I try to update it or actually download it, I get this message "Sign in to tr33st@live.com to update applications for that account". I have no idea who or what this Apple ID is. When I try to sign in using my real Apple ID, it gives me an error code. I have found no way to get rid of this notification. Even if I actually try to download the Twitter App for Mac OS, it continues to ask me for this other user name, and if I try to enter mine, I get an error code and it quits. Maybe updating to Lion in the next several days will make this work out.

Jul 17, 2011 3:59 PM in response to Robert Butcher1by exyny,I had similar problems. App Store told me to sing in with an account that I've never seen when downloding that persistent "update". Well some guy on the internet said that the problem is related to currupt Spotlight index, and re-indexing solved the issue.
For the detailed information how to do this, go to this URL

Aug 3, 2011 2:41 AM in response to EricMontgomeryby rob335,yep, i tried that and it also solved the update "bug" for me, so it seems to be if you have been trying to fool the app store into thinking you bought pages etc. you will have an update repeat with the app that you copied the "_MASReceipt" folder from.

Aug 3, 2011 6:07 AM in response to Macsterguyby FishComputer,Here is what you do,
reinstall 10.6.8 (or 10.7)
trash the app (but don't empty the trash)
and download it from the app purchase page (not the purchases page)

Aug 15, 2011 3:17 AM in response to Macsterguyby MBonde,I know what the problem is, I just fixed my own MBP.
If you illegally download Angry Birds, you take the receipt from another mac app store App, therefore Mac App Store assumes that the program needs an update. If you want to fix it, you´ll have to delete the problem e.g Angry Birds.

Sep 1, 2011 8:39 AM in response to Macsterguyby bobbyco57,I just figured out why I am having this problem, Mac App Store keeps showing updates available for apps when I've already downloaded them... it's that I have external drives mounted to which I back up to with SuperDuper. The App Store sees those apps on the mounted volume as out of date (which they are until I backup again). I dismount the volumes and all is fine. My external HDs are Spotlight indexed.

Oct 15, 2011 3:21 PM in response to MBondeby Andrew J,MBonde is correct. My kids had installed a hacked game. When I deleted it, all the problems disappeared. So check your apps are legit, check them through the AppStore purchases tab, and remove anything that's not. Also, don't let your kids download stuff on your computer! RESOLVED!
