Oct 31, 2011 10:16 AM in response to Akssakby im2hot4ya,Im having the exact same problem, took it to the apple store, the people there said they can't verify whether this is a hardware of software issue as they are not allowed to take the phone apart to check out the speaker (they can only take the back cover off). My warranty expired so they can't replace the phone for free either...
this ***** man!!! i hope someone can help as I am not familiar disassembing my phone and fix it myself...

Nov 1, 2011 12:49 AM in response to Akssakby im2hot4ya,hey everyone i managed to fixed the problem on my end and it turns out it ain't has anything to do with iOS 5. All I had to do is apply some pressure and push around the earpiece speaker area and that fixes it. I read about this solution when people had problems with the speak in the bottom, they pushed the area to the right of the home button. I guess the connection to the speaker may be lose and pushing against it helps securing the connection. The earpiece speaker has been working for me for the whole day after doing this, hope this fixes some of your problems. Cheers~
Note: find a flat surface like the desk or table. I pushed both sides of the phone. Don't push too hard on the front side as the glass is bendable.

Nov 4, 2011 8:40 PM in response to Akssakby im2hot4ya,hey guys bad news, I just noticed the fix i mentioned about is not permanent...
after applying the fix of pushing against the speaker area, i tested my phone and it was working for at least 3 days. but my frd just called and I can't hear from the speaker again!
I realized that i can hear from the speaker if I push the speaker area again, but this means I have to do this every now and then!
this *** man! i've only had the phone for about 1.5 year. why did apple make the connection between the circuit board and and the speaker chip so fragile!!??

Nov 4, 2011 10:56 PM in response to im2hot4yaby jerryyan,So I really did not expect this to be a "permanent" fix. The fact that everyone thought that it has something to do with iOS5 means that quite a few iPhone4 developed similar problems after being used for a certain time. It's time to buy the iPhone4S (... see you here when iOS6 is released)

Nov 8, 2011 9:10 PM in response to Akssakby Sajan_B,I start to having problem with my iPhone speaker once I updated to iOS 5 too. When I play any music, the speaker will first work but within fraction of second, I see the sound bar goes down to min and hide under. When I click on + volume button, I don't see any sound bar/display. If I mute the phone, I see the mute icon display icon but that's it. When I un-mute, it shows the un-mute speaker icon but no volume bar.
After I read few articles online, I restore my phone twice. First with back up.........NO LUCK. At first it seemed like working for few minutes. So I started playing games and after 5 minutes, back to square one. Then I restored my phone with NO BACK UP..........NO LUCK AGAIN.
Tomorrow I am going to my most UN-FRIENDLIEST APPLE STORE of the whole wide world. Hopefully I get this fix or get replacement.

Nov 14, 2011 11:50 PM in response to Akssakby touzi,Hello iPhoners from Greece!
Yesterday i had the same problem as the most of you. I was able to hear sound when i was in a call from the headphones or the loud speaker but NOT at all from the ear speaker.
I was so confused. But after some tries i figure it out!
So... here are the steps.
1. First we must see if the iPhone still THINKS that it has headphones on!
2. With the headphones NOT plugged press the rear buttons to rise or low the sound and you will see on the screen a speaker icon. if the iPhone thinks that the headphones are still on you will see Ringer (headphones).
3. So we just found the problem!
4. Take a small screwdriver on your hand and with the other one hold your iPhone with the headphones "hole" facing the floor.
5. put the small screwdriver with caution into the hole....and smootly make circle moves in the hole.
6. in just few seconds i bet you will see some thin fibers fall out of the hole!
THATS IT it works again!!
hope that helps some people! i was searching all around net yesterday but i couldnt find anything usefull!
