Nov 2, 2011 12:36 AM in response to shyevinby jsd2,★HelpfulMay I make a suggestion-
You are correct, once the folder is hidden, you can't see it to drag it back into the Terminal window to complete the
chflags nohidden <path/to/folder>
command. You normally need to remember the exact pathname (name and location) of the folder that you hid earlier, so that you can now type in the full <path/to/folder> entry manually.
A workaround for this if you don't remember the exact pathname is to make ALL hidden files and folders temporarily visible to Finder, enabling you to see the folder that you hid earlier. You can then drag it into Terminal to complete the chflags nohidden command, which will make it permanently visible. You then disable Finder's ability to see ALL hidden items, returning the system to normal.
There are several ways to enable Finder to see all hidden items, including Terminal commands, but a friendlier way is to download the free utility TinkerTool, click on its Finder tab at the top, check the box for "Show hidden and system files" and then click "Relaunch Finder" at the bottom:
So again, first make all hidden files visible with TinkerTool as above, then in Terminal type
chflags nohidden
followed by a single space. Don't press <return> yet. Then drag in the folder that you had hidden before, click inside the Terminal window, and press <Return>.
Finally, go back to TinkerTool, uncheck the box that you checked earlier, and again click "Relaunch Finder" at the bottom. This should re-hide everything that normally should be hidden, but the folder you hid earlier should remain visible.
