my battery drops about 10% per hour on standby. with icloud off, email set to fetch and turn off some location services... i so regretted that i got a 4s... should have just sticked with the 4. THIS IS A RIPOFF...

if Apple doesn't do anything to fix it soon i can see a class-action lawsuit coming... 4s totally fail to deliver...

The battery life for my iphone 4S is terrible! I turned off everything I could like: wifi, bluetooth, set push options to manual, location services off, but my battery seems to be out of power everyday even though I hardly use it! I dimmed the screen and I tried to drain the battery to zero and did a full recharge multiple times with little to no benefits. I'm out of ideas! I noticed it draining very fast whenever I text BTW...

After trying most of the stuff here, the only thing I have on is WiFi, Siri, Find My Iphone, Email, Calendar, Reminders, the basic stuff....

77% 8h 11m Standy; 1h 35 Usage (No way I used it more than 30 minutes.  Only thing is backgroud running is Iphone, Messages, Photos, Mail, Calendar

    Is this considered normal?

Why does an application remain running after I close it out?

If you didn't use it for more than 30 minutes (as in, for sure, and not just "by your estimates") then perhaps something is running in the background (possibly invisible to you). It may be misconfigured contacts, email, calendars, etc.

I upgraded from Android to the Iphone 4s thinking that the battery life was awsome (which it hasn't).  what I don't understand is why I have to disable nearly everything just to get nearly desent battery life to last the day.  This is supposed to be a high end "luxury" phone with ALL the bells and whistles why do I have to turn them off? I could have bought a touch screen "dumb" phone with the same bells and whistles now that I have had to turn everything off.

Is there any way that the battery problem may be linked to the color of the phone? I KNOW IT SOUNDS RIDICULOUS, since they should be identical, but look at the forums... so far, everyone who happened to mention they had a white device has no battery problems. Those who did mention battery problems and a color are always black...

In today's edition of the Huffington Post, there is an excellent article by Jason Gilbert

addressing the issues surrounding the iphone 4s battery problems and suggested

interventions to mitigate the problem.  Some of the fixes have been already suggested

on this forum, but the article explains others as well in a very readable format.

Here is the link to the article.   http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/01/saving-iphone-battery-life_n_1068453.ht ml

So far, these interventions seem to be improving the battery discharge rate on my iphone 4s.

Did you take yours back due to the battery issue? What did they tell you? I just got mines and i'm thinking of trading it at apple.

I have discovered a solution to the batterylife issue.  If I have reminders turned on from my exchange server and a reminder is activated, it runs the battery down at about 25%/hour.  Once that is turned off battery life is fine.  Why that is I don't know!

I know about all those tips, I've been on here since like page 100 lol I just made an observation after reading 200 pages of comments. It is an odd anomaly that the white phones don't appear to have issues. I know about the fixes, I'm trying to see past it at the people who DONT have issues and seeing what they have in common. One those those apparent links is that they appear to be (at least on here) white iphones.

    How did you disable it?

I haven't been on these forums in awhile but my battery life has been up and down.

I just wanted to fill people in on a three things I have tried that I haven't heard of other people trying much.  My battery goes all day and then some now WITH location services, notifications, fetch, wifi and bluetooth.

While combining my emails into iCloud, turning of most Facebook Notifications and turning off Calendar Notifications aren't complete solutions for everybody, they have dramatically increased my battery life.

Here is what I did to "combine" my email accounts to limit the number of accounts syncing to my phone:

         1. Turn on iCloud and create a me.com email address.

         2. For Hotmail:

         Log into MSN/Hotmail

Click Profile Name in Upper Right

         Click Options

         Click Mail

         Email Forwarding under Manage Account

Type in your iCloud @me.com email address

         Save

         3. For Gmail:

         Login to Google

Click the gear for settings in the upper right

Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab

         Add a Forwarding Address

Confirm using the email sent to your iCloud account

Select Forward a Copy of Incoming Mail to: (Select your iCloud email)

         Save Changes

         4. On the iPhone:

              Go to Settings

              Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars

              Add Account...

              Other

Add Name, Address, Password and Description (Hit Next)

Under IMAP (how I did it) enter your me.com email address for the incoming mail server.

For the Outgoing Mail Server enter the host name, email address and password you would use to send           messages.  (For hotmail, it would be smtp.live.com and, for gmail, it would be smtp.gmail.com).

Click next... You will get all of your email through your me.com email and you will be able to send email           from the account you chose above.

I hope this helps some people... I have got answers from many others and I felt obligated to share something that has helped me double my battery life.  Even after, doing most of the other fixes on here, I was losing 10 to 15% battery life with light usage in two hours off the the charger... Now I am losing ~5% in that same time (have class every morning so my usage is pretty consistent).

    Location Sevices

    More Push Services

    iCloud Backup

    Photo Stream

    Automatic Downloads

Bluetooth 4 spec is not power optimized yet

In short, lots of stuff going on while the iPhone is "idle"

I think a lot of people forget about all the stuff the phone is doing when they are actively using it.

I have a white iPhone. It has the same problem with the battery. I have applied all the "fixes." I don't believe this issue has anything to do with the color of the phone.
