Those are YOUR words, ncstate, not mine. Had you read BeersYourFriend's original post addressing me, you might realize better what transpired. You are right though....time to get back to whining and complaining on topic.

I refuse to let this thread end so acrimoniously, so I will state that I believe gestures will make a comeback for iPad 1 owners in the next iOS update. After testing them out since yesterday, and with an app called System Activity Monitor as guide to the CPU spikes etc, I think the A4 chip can very well handle multi-gestures. I think, as another commenter surmised earlier, that taking out multi-gestures was a very last minute decision on Apple's part, and more to do with hardware concerns than actual greed.

iOS 5.0.1 beta has improved iPhone 4S battery, fixed some bugs, made Australian accents work better for Siri, and added Multitouch Gestures to the Original iPad.
Expect it soonish.

Great! I'm really glad they listened. I hope there's some kind of a speed fix for the ipad also. Mines become so sluggish since the upgrade.

Don't know who you are, or where you got that info from... But, I really hope it's true!
Thank you Apple, for listening to your customers.

Thanks, Huskie! ...I told you guys Apple would add multi-gestures in an update.
Whatever is the reason, whether it's because we put a stink up here and via email, or as I suspect, that they didn't want to overwhelm iPad1's hardware without thorough long-term testing (given that the upgrade has made iPad1s rather sluggish), Apple have made us all happy now.
Caveat emptor to anyone buying Apple gadgets or any other gadgets: the first version of any technological geegaw is pretty much obsolete when it's launched. Moaning that you spent 700 dollars on it is useless. This is now the modern world as we know it.

According to MacRumors we have complained enough!!!
iOS 5.0.1 beta contains improvements and other bug fixes including:
- Fixes bugs affecting battery life

- Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
- Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
- Contains security improvements
iOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.

Yeah, this was mentioned a week ago, 4 posts above yours.

And just a thought for you, it may not have been the "complaining" it may have been a last minute bug that was discovered just before the launch of iOS 5.0 and there was not time to resolve it to Apple's satisfaction. Just a thought.

Ooooohhh.... nice. The gestures work very well! Me likey! Ooooh (again!) I forgot that it would switch between open apps! I like how it shakes its head when you get to the end of the apps just like when you enter the wrong password for Apple. This is so much nicer!
Now... Apple, put my "Front Row" back on Lion. Where's that thread? How about all of you people who were so dilligent in contacting Apple to put "Gestures" on iPad 1 send Apple a nice note to put "Front Row" on Lion... I miss it... my remote is not nearly as functional anymore... booo. Any of you "experts" know of an app or workaround to have "Front Row" on Lion... let me know. I will look for that thread, probably dead.

I'm happy to report that my iPad1 is iOS 5.0.1 compliant, and multi-gestures work as smooth as silk on it.
I have not as yet tested the battery consumption, but in my case, the fast draining was never an issue after I deleted and re-added all my email accounts (as per a tip I read). I also notice a general lag improvement -- no longer does the iPad feel sluggish. It's quicker than its ever been.
If you guys recall, I was one of those disheartened iPad1 owners who decided to use that Cydia workaround which enabled multi-gestures. That never did sit comfortably with me, because I detest jailbreaking iDevices, although it worked perfectly, installation was painless and it hadn't exactly been a jailbreak.
Fortunately, Apple reversed course and here we are, all happy owners again. RIGHT?
