Thanks for the update...this is so weird.  I hope that it's not a major re-write of the coding to get things up to speed.  If they just reverted to the iPod functionality and called it "Music" I'd be just fine with that.

Totally.  If any Apple Devs are reading this, just give us the old iPod code!  You can leave the new icon and name!  We won't tell ANYBODY.

    Yes, The Consummator!

I feel compelled to repeat myself - this isn't about working through the bugs.  It is about a SERIOUS step backward in functionality and ease of use in the new Music app vis-a-vis the old iPod app.  The Apple team needs to take a mature step back and say "this wasn't an improvement", then revert back to the iPod app's functionality and improve from there.  Feel free to call it "Music", you did on the phone.

I find there are LOT'S of syncing issues between iOS 5 for the touch  and iTunes. (I don't own an iPad or iPhone and never have so I won't speak for those iDevices). Personaly I have 14,177 songs exactly in my iPod so for that reason I am VERY VERY VERY picky about how organized my iTunes/iPod library is, however when I download a new album from an artist and the artist's name onion the downloaded file is "eatmewhileimhot" and the name in my iTunes library is "Eatmewhileimhot!" (note the capital "E" and the "!") even if I change it in my iTunes library, BEFORE I put it on my iPod it still shows up on my iPod library as two seperate artists "eatmewhileimhot" and "Eatmewhileimhot!". This problem also happens with album art, lyrics, and album names etc.

This same problem persist when I change the name of (for example) "modest mouse" to "Modest Mouse" on the actual iPod using iTunes, that it will show up in iTunes as one artist "Modest Mouse" but it will persist to be "modest mouse" and "Modest Mouse" on my iPod no matter how many times a resync, edit, and change it trough iTunes.

This may not be a problem for most people, but I am a Head Hunter for Victory Records, And I come over LOTS of new bands that I like and I have lots of music from these new bands on my iPod of which I like to enjoy listening to them, but when I had to constantly change between "modest mouse" modals "Modest Mouse" just to listen to one of my favorite bands (it's a HUGE HASSLE while driving) I don't like that because I shouldn't always be having to do that.

Another thig that I know probably bothers most people, is the fact the the new iOS 5 music app is HORRENDOUSLY slow, usine my new 64gb iPod touch I tried running 8 thousand (exactly) songs on ios 5 and I was very sluggish, I compared it to those exact same 8 thousand songs on my 32gb 2nd gen iPod running iOS 3.1.3 and my new iPod which has more ram and a faster CPU, lagged by over 1.5 seconds. This should not be happening, iOS 5 was and still is a great idea, and has many awesome features, but Apple REALLY botched the new music app (especially from what I've heard about the iPad music app).

I know apple can do better, I just hope for ONCE apple listens to what they're customers want.

I agree.  Even when it's working, it's really, really slow.  The music app had been working fine since Sunday and then it just died out of the blue. Won't load, won't sync my songs, won't play anything period.  Resetting all settings for the fourth time in five days.  Not cool.

Never used the forums before but felt compelled to post...

Since I have updated to iOS 5 I can no longer view compilations properly, all songs appear as separate albums despite setting the 'part of compilation’ tag and the same album artist. This is the same on both my iPod Touch (3G) and Iphone 4 using fresh installs and wireless syncing aswell as connecting via usb.

I have tried the fixes mentioned so far including the hard reset but nothing has worked.

One thing I did notice was if you change the 'artist' tag for a particular song in iTunes the change does not reflect on the iPod or iPhone (even after a re-sync).I think this could be causing the compilation problem as the songs on the iPod may not be receiving the correct tags when setting them in iTunes.

Really don't want to downgrade to iOS 4 but it's looking that way!

    System info: Windows 7 (64bit) iTunes 10.5.0.142

I don't know how many people agree with me, but as a person who uses a lot of playlists, I miss being able to see the playlists in a text-only list— like in iOS 4<. Alas, I will probably have to adapt and just reduce my number of playlists to a number that won't lag my iPad, but I'll miss having all of my playlists around.

A temporary fix is to download another third party app like Simplier or Oculus Visualizer Free.  Your music is still on your iPod.  It's just the music app is buggy and won't work right.  It's a temporary (maybe even a permanent) fix until ios 5.0.1 comes out that will hopefully fix the problem.  Simplier or Oculus does not have the option to view lyrics or rate your music though.  At least I can listen to my music though.

Um, Apple.  Are you listening.  The iPad no longer plays music.  Maybe you should not be so secret with your products and let power users test them.  It's unbelieveable you let this happen.  Music is core.  You forgot that.

Anyone know if these issues are fixed in iOS 5.0.1 or is it just the battery issue fix? iPod Touch no longer used for music Might have to dig the Creative Zen out!

First time I log in to forums - just to be another voice here.

    :-(

Shame on you Apple. People pay more for your products and love them, because they get quality for that money. Because they want the feeling, that things just work with a single "magic touch", not like everything else in life... Making the music app crash on a music player is just simply not acceptable!

During work I have to mess around so much with buggy software, that I simply refuse to try any bug fix on a device I bought for entertainment, or read all the posts here. (I hold back myself...)

Was it actually tested, on _real_ iPods and iPhones with _real_ music on it (no, not stolen, but imported from CD-s, with artwork added later on it)?

    I am very upset.

Totally agree Soteran, you just expect things like this to work out of the box, especially after paying such a high cost for the device.

I thought iOS 5 was tested and then tested over and over for months?

Apple please just restore the music app from iOS4!

Yeah... I still remember the feeling when - after years of using Windows and mostly Linux - for the first time I had a MacBook. After the quick install I became so "brave" that I downloaded Skype - prepared for a long fight with the pheripherials - and... it just worked. With video and sound - everything just simply worked, quickly, smoothly. And I could _close_ :-) the laptop and put it into my bag without turning off, even for weeks. A new world opened... Housing remains cool without power fans, no memory leaking apps, no crashing or freezing - it was just a fantastic feeling. Now there are issues with Lion and iOS5. What happened...?

Developers, I don't care much about features - come out later with them, who cares - just make things stable and bullet-proof again... Please.

Wow, I knew there has been a lot of discussion about the issues on iPad but hadn't heard about the problems with the touch version.  Be sure to send feedback to Apple, they absolutely need to fix the various versions of this app.

I do hope Apple are reading this, I have problems with the music app on both my iPod Touch 3G (64Gb) and iPhone 4 (32Gb), lots of storage but none of it being used for music anymore! I do like iOS 5 it's just the music app really lets it down.

I believe my issues are being caused by a sync problem, the fact that I can change an artist name in iTunes for a particular song and this will never change on the iPod / iPhone after syncing. The song on the iPod will still keep the original artist name! I never usually change the artist name once the song is added to the iPod but the fact that this isn't syncing shows that other fields aren’t being changed / synced either. This is causing issues with my compilations as the songs once added to the iPod never receive the compilation flag I add to each song (via iTunes) or the 'album artist' for that matter. I could probably use a 3rd party tag program to add these flags then sync the songs via iTunes but this shouldn't be needed. It worked fine under iOS 4!

Due to this problem I haven't even had a chance to experience the slowness / crashing others have had!

Tested in both Windows 7 and Windows XP (also using wifi sync)
