Q: Home Sharing drop out with Apple TV2

Just did the updates for i-tunes (10.2.1), ATV2 (4.2), and Ipad (4.3). And what I'm getting is when I stream from the computer using the ipad remote app, music starts then just stops. I go to ATV settings and turn airplay off then back on, then the music start again. Then goes out again. But if I just use the ATV, music, photos, YouTube, movies, etc.. everything works fine. It just when I stream. ATV show strong WI-FI signal. Never had any issues until I did the updates. Tried rebooting ATV, did a restart on the computer. NO GO. I'm thinking it's a home sharing issue but I don't really know. Has anyone else having any problems since the new updates? Or any ideas on what I should try. Any help would be great...
Thanks

I have turned the wifi sync with my iPad in iTunes due to the reason that it was constantly trying to sync with iPad on on my home network. Now both my ATV2's work as advertised but the wifi sync is shot for my iPad, iPod and iPhones. So if this is an anomoly or a real issue, maybe Apple needs to get their iTunes program and home sharing up to par because we paid good money to have these things work correctly and not go back to the ctl-alt-del reset of M$!

I concur with ifixufly etal....this is a home sharing issue and it is software related.

My ATV 2 Is connected to my home network that is run by my iMac. We listen to music most of the day and at least once every hour the music stops. I turn on the television to see what the prob is and the home sharing has dropped out.

At this point i can still carry out every other function on the ATV except anything that is reliant on home sharing, d'oh!

In my case I have to go to the iMac and turn off home sharing then turn it off in the ATV settings then turn it on on the iMac then turn it on on the ATV. If I just turn it off and on on the ATV it will not work. I have resorted to not using the ATV at all as it is another aggravation I don't need right now.

Just found it sounds like valid way to a solution:

Had the ATV2 since May. Home Sharing has been dropping since then. I held on (per Apple store instructions) until IOS5 release because I was told the issue would be resolved.

Updated to iOS5 when it came out. Same issues. Restored ATV2 and installed updated. Same issues.

I took the ATV2 into the Apple store last night. They told me that my ATV2 needed an update. I showed them a pick I tiik earlier that day showing the ATV2 was up to date. They said they didn't know what happened but proceeded to complete a full restore and update. I have it hooked up to my wireless network again. No drops in the last 12 hours. I will post again with 2 week test results.

This issue JUST started happening with me.  ATV2, Airport Extreme connected to iTunes on a Mac Pro.  I'm not going through a bunch of router changes.  It's obviously the last iTunes or ATV update that is causing this.  FIX IT PLEASE

Here is an update for airport and time capsule 7.6 that should fix the issue.

This update for all 802.11n AirPort Express, 802.11n AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule models provides fixes for the following:

    - An issue with performance on overlapping wireless networks

    - An issue with AirPlay audio streaming

    - An issue with configuring multiple entries for DNS servers

For detailed information on Firmware Updates 7.6, including how to install the update, please visit:

All about Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Express base station firmware updates

It is recommended that AirPort Utility 5.5.3 or later be installed before updating to Firmware version 7.6.

For information on the security content of this update, please visit:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222

    Hope this helps

I have the same problems with Apple TV (2) and no Airport or Time Capsule in the house, so it can't be THE solution.

I am still amazed Apple doesn't recognize this as a problem.

    Best regards,

So far so good with this new update, but I've only watched one show so I'll be keeping an eye on it until I've burned through a few hours of content.

What update? I just checked for updates on AppleTV and iTunes and it says everything is up to date.

Here's an interesting fact: I talked to two random people who have AppleTV. Both have problems with home sharing dropping. So while many of us are thinking it might be a problem specific to our network equipment, computers, version of iTunes, etc., it sounds to me like every AppleTV out there has this issue.

This is ridiculous. I'm forwarding a link of this discussion to Walt Mossberg at the Wall Street Journal, Wired magazine and whatever else I can think of. I encourage everyone to do the same -- forward it to publications that might care to write about it. Apple is in no hurry to fix this, so I think we need to give them a little push.

The airport extreme update (Apple Router).  So far so good, 3 shows in with no interruption.  What's next are you going to complain President Obama that Charmin clogs your toilet?  lol
