Since I upgraded to iOS 5, I am unable to delete purchased music.  If I delete a track, then itunes automatically downloads and reinstalls it in both my itunes library and on my iphone, even if I shut music sync completely off.  I have tried disabling automatic downloads, but it makes no difference.  Anyone know why this is happening, and how i can get around it?

I am adding a vote to this. I am facing the same problem.

I have contacted apple support, and so far, they are useless.  They keep telling me to disable automatic downloads, which I keep telling them I have already done.  Does anyone have an answer?

I think I found a solution - at least it worked for me for now.

I unchecked the song in iTunes and deleted it off the iPhone and off itunes at the same time, whilst being disconnected. With the next sync, the song did not come back. The spell is broken!

hope it works for you too.

I finally figured out a solution.  I reset my iphone back to factory settings and updated it again, treating it as a new phone.  I lost some data, but I am now able to delete music without the phone auto downloading it again when I sync.

And apple tech support was completely unhelpful.  They kept telling me to do things I had already done, and that I had told them I had already done, and they bounced me back and forth from phone support to itunes help, with everyone saying someone else would have to help me.  It was really awful.
