Oct 29, 2011 2:10 AM in response to Rensoomby Stelios369,I have a MacBook Pro 17" Unibody that's less than two years old. There is no question that Macs are far superior than most PCs, and I plan to keep using them. HOWEVER, several things have gone wrong along the way. I didn't realize how big of a problem it was until I searched for a solution on this discussion page. Basically, out of nowhere, my Mac started freezing up on me. I thought maybe I was just impatient. No matter how long I wait, no matter what I try, it only responds to holding the power button down.
1) My MacBook Pro gives me third degree freakin' burns if I set it on my lap. My fans have to blow like jet engines at 6000rpm just to keep it below 80-85 C. In order to burn a dvd I need to turn the screen off, or else my Mac will max-out at 105-110C.
2) My keyboard never illuminated. I sent it to Apple and they said that a wire was faulty. To fix it, they gave me an estimate of $2700 . . . just to make the **** keys light up. I only paid $2500 for it new. For $2500, they got a lot of nerve to blame a faulty wire on me. For 99 cents I got a little reading light that clips on to my laptop.
3) Freezing up issues are supposed to be in the past. Only PCs frequently freeze up, right? I've had to do a hard restart on my MacBook about 10-15 times in the past week. Crtl + Alt + Delete was the secret weapon on my PC. What's the magic key combo to get our ***** out of this jam?
Go figure, PC type problems are making their way into the Mac Community. Unfortunately, solving these issues is much more difficult on an un-hackable computer. We can't even get in to fix the problems we're having now. Where art thou Steve Jobs? First you leave us, then my ipod gets erased. Don't make me buy another Dell, please!

I have now had enough of this. I am utterly disgusted that Apple have decided to basically ignore its customers when they pay over £2000 for a supposedly "top of the range" laptop! I have filed a complaint with the UK based consumer TV show BBC Watchdog.
You filed a complaint with a TV show?
What's wrong with the Office of Fair Trading, at least they have some authority.

Nov 3, 2011 2:21 PM in response to Rensoomby LMR UK,@csound1..I'm aware of my rights under the SOGA, I've rejected things before for a refund. The point of informing watchdog is to raise awareness and trying to get apple to acknowledge the issue as it seems that They are so far ignoring the many complaints

Nov 6, 2011 7:56 AM in response to Rensoomby ArthurOff,Hello everybody,
I bought a new "MacBook Pro" 15-inch model with highest specifications in this June. I also installed newest version of "Mac OS X", "Lion" operating system.
I started having this problem after I installed "Lion". It happens often, more than several times a day - it freezes, and the only solution is to push the turn off button, turn off the computer, and turn it on again.
I did many researches on this issue, also went to the "Apple" store's "Genius" bar where they reinstalled my operating system which did not help at all. They also checked my hardware and said that everything is okay.
Moreover, in addition to the freezing problem, sometimes I lock my computer and after I log in, the sreen saver does not disappear, the only solution is to close my computer and open it again, so it mean it goes to sleep and wakes up again. There are more smaller issues, such as not showing icons of downloads on "Downloads" folder (while it is in stack mode).
In my opinion, these might be "Lion's" issues, because lots of people have the same problem, and the problem mainly occured after the "Lion" install. However, it seems that "Apple" does not even try to fix this issue, or even if they do, they are doing it poorly.
Yours,
Arthur

With this information i called Apple support and they couldnt help me they never heard of this problem. So they asked me to bring the Macbook to a Apple authorized repair center for testing.
Brought my Macbook to the Apple authorized repair center and showed them the problem and they replaced my Logic Board, and now it's working great with automatic graphic switching enabled.
A other user in this thread also did a Logic Board replacement regarding this problem...

Nov 7, 2011 6:10 AM in response to marc from cartignyby deborah16,I have a new Macbook Pro late 2011 (2.2GHz intel core i7) purchased 2 weeks ago after returning my Macbook Pro mid 2010 (purchased Dec 2010) which had suffered with many of the issues reported in these discussions and had a new logic board after it was just 8 months old and was due for another but I decided to return it instead and received a full refund. I am now having issues with the new model freezing, unresponsive trackpad and noisy fan and am considering returning it as I can't go through this again!

Nov 7, 2011 9:55 AM in response to marc from cartignyby amrlenright,Marc, Yes, I still have the problem. If I keep the main graphics card selected via gfxCardstaus app there is no freezing at all. If I let the computer manage the graphics switching it randomly freezes. I bought my macbook pro in August 2011. Not sure what to do really, it is working fine and never freezes if I keep using the gfxCardstatus app

Nov 8, 2011 4:07 PM in response to amrlenrightby geoffray,Just a message to report the efficiency of the gfxcardstatus application. After my last message 4 days ago the laptop worked without freezing, during 4 days. Today it freezed twice in a row. However, 4 days is already marvelous compared to the previous frequency of freezing to which I was confronted.

Nov 13, 2011 1:31 AM in response to oGr3by oGr3,Guess what, the problem is back.
It's been running on and off since mid August, but yesterday it hard froze twice in a row.
Running with the lid closed, attached to wireless keyboard and mouse and a Matrox DualHead 2Go DP edition.
I had just downloades the latest firmware update when the screens got black and the mouse and keyboard bluetooth lights went out.
Restarted without external monitors, did the update, re-attached the monitors and tried to launch Team Fortress 2. Boom - froze when loading the game. Same symptom - screens went black and nothing but the power botton worked when i opened the lid.
There seems to be a serious design flaw/hardware glitch in these versions. This is my THIRD motherboard and SECOND set of RAM they put in, and the problem doesn't go away.
I'm really fed up with this.
