Q: mpeg streamclip into fcx

I'm shooting with a Canon 7d, and to get files into FCE i've been processing the files through mpeg streamclip. I've just shot a short film at 1920x1080 @ 24fps. Anyone have any experience at converting these files via streamclip for FCE, the end use being a file of movie screen quality/size? More to the point, what should I convert to; mpeg4, AVI, DV, etc at H-264?

Since FCE only works natively with DV and AIC, you need to convert to one of those codecs for editing.  Once the editing is finished, the delivery format/codec would depend on how you plan to deliver/play the file.  DVD?  Blu-ray?  File playback?  Web?  All have different output requirements.

Thanks David. When I select a DV codec the preview of the file is compressed to 4:3 even after selecting 16:9 in options. The file seems to be correct in format when I use H-264 or Apple Intermediate Codecs. Plus, the DV codec only shows a 29.97 frame rate, the clips were all shot at 24 fps.  Any thoughts?

The movie is destined for DVD & web playback.

I have a 60D, and with the assumption that the 7D is similar you will need to convert the clips to AIC. One additional problem here is that FCE does not work with 24 FPS. So if you are to use FCE for this project you will also need to convert your video to an appropriate frame rate (NTSC/PAL). DH (or others) may have guidance on if the FPS conversion reduces the quality of your video or not.
