Download the Adobe PDF reader app from the App Store.

There are a number of apps that support PDFs on the iPad - some free like iBooks and the Adobe Reader app, and some pay-for apps such as GoodReader which have other funcationality as well.

you drag the pdf from a finder window onto the iTunes window, top left in the section labelled Library. The PDF will be added to the iTunes library in the Books section. Then you sync your iPad with iTunes and in the books tab in itunes for your ipad  make sure books are synced. Then in you iPad in iBooks you will see your pdf.

email it to yourself and open it in the Mail app on the iPad.

syncing with iTunes makes it so darn easy. I am curious, Why would you not want to use iTunes to sync with your ipad?

Bob,  for those that experience very long sync times, mostly tied to the backup routine, i can understand why skanner was looking for a faster or easier way to get a single large file from the computer to the pad.

    Skanner-

There are other options, beside email.

Filebrowser,  and quickoffice / dropbox throw documents back and forth without resyncing.

So if you want to avoid the sync, look into one of the alternate approaches

You can also set up a free DropBox account.  DropBox has an iPad app and a PC (Windows and Mac).  Drop the file into a DropBox folder on your PC and it appears in your iPad DropBox.  DropBox has its own iPad PDF viewer or you can open the file in iBooks, Adobe Reader, etc.

Thanks - just what I was looking for. It is odd that iBooks does not appear in the File Sharing window of the Apps tab in iTunes. The Apple method Bobwild describes is not intuitive.
