Oct 25, 2011 4:52 PM in response to Gullyby Encephalon,I am having this exact same problem but it only started doing this when I replaced my battery. The last battery this computer had ran for about 700 cycles without a problem and I bought a spare battery from a friend of mine for $30. It's an original Apple battery that he bought brand new and rarely used (as you can see below, the battery only has 17 CYCLES) but, upon inserting it into the computer, the battery does not charge at all. I've tried the zapping the PRAM, doing the SMC reset several times and just plain letting the battery stay connected on the off chance that it will start charging on its own and I still got nothing.

The rest of my basic hardware info is as follows:

Oct 25, 2011 5:54 PM in response to olivia_checchioby Encephalon,I was hoping I wouldn't find another user as low a charge cycle count as mine. I went 17 cycles and now it's dead.

Nov 10, 2011 4:13 AM in response to Gullyby applebaby11,Hey everyone.
I had the same problem about 6 months ago. I called Apple and the guy told me my battery was "worn out" or something and I needed a new one. I didn't want to spend the $130 but after two weeks of thinking about it, I gave in and bought a new battery.
When the new one came in I made sure never to put it on sleep mode, I always shut it down. Maybe 3 days later the same problem occurred. "not charging" I was more then upset but I didnt feel like dealing with it again so i stuck it out thinking it was the charger...bought a new charger...that didn't fix the issue either. Now, i've spent over $200 trying to fix a four year old computer with no luck.
here is my info for the "new" battery

Nov 10, 2011 4:48 AM in response to applebaby11by Lexiepex,From your reading, I have the impression that you did not buy the original, but a third party battery.

Nov 12, 2011 5:39 AM in response to Gullyby MarkJF,I had this problem with my 2008 MacBook and tried some of the solutions suggested in various places, but got nowhere.
However, I was also running out of space so I removed a load of unnecessary stuff (e.g. films) to free up about 30GB (the 160GB available was more than 90% full) and since then - about a month ago - I've had no problem with the battery charging. I know this makes pretty much no sense, logically, but others might want to give it a go as I know what a headache this problem is and particularly being faced with the hassle of buying a new battery.

Nov 13, 2011 8:53 PM in response to Gullyby remleych,I have having the same issues. My battery was lasting 3 to 3.5 hours and then one day it stopped holding a charge. It doesn't seem that it would go from that to dead without more symptoms such as shorter battery life. I did get 1024 cycles on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Nov 14, 2011 1:00 AM in response to remleychby Lexiepex, remleych: your battery has had a very long life (1024 cycles is more than specification), It has to be replaced.

Nov 14, 2011 6:25 PM in response to Gullyby 6elty6,Well my macbook wont work without the ac plugged in. its been like this for almost 6 months it has now become my desktop. I went to apple and they said i need a new logic board and it would cost 500 flat rate or something. Screw that
I got a new laptop and Im just gonna take the board out and physically look and see if anyhting is fried on the board. Ive tried all the tricks but its an instant shut off when i unplug the power cord with or without the battery smh
Ive changed all the power components and no use so i feel this is the only way.

Nov 17, 2011 12:27 PM in response to Gullyby sister-of-it-genius,If your cord is on a double adapter or a power board make sure that it is the only thing in the powerpoint. I did this to the same problem and it worked for me. Also make sure you are using you countries power supply (not a country changing one). Thx
