Hate to say it, but I'm registering to add to the above comments -

Battery life was pretty bad on the 5.0

Worse...  MUCH worse now on 5.0.1

My best guess is it's the dual antenna, and switching from WIFI to cellular data...  iPhone seems to get hung up when neither signal is particularly strong...  Anyway - I watched the battery percentage literally count down as I simply surfed basic websites after updating....  Lost 60% total battery in a five hour shift of walking around one small building with the phone in my pocket.

Add me to the list please...

Not sure if it's better for sure yet. But it's too early to tell.

Seems to be similar to 5.0 and after turning some of the system services under location services off, battery life improved tremendously.

Have to monitor again after another full charge.

I honestly don't think it's the iPhone 4S. I think it's the updated software that came out before today's update.

After I got the original update on my 3GS, the battery sucked dry rather quickly.

I'm at 9 hours and 22 minutes, and showing 65% left.

So far, it's doing much better.

Things got worse after updating to iOS 5.0.1.

Apple has screwed up big time this time around.

Am from Singapore and have exactly the same problem

    1) battery drains is ridiculous

    2) the auto switch from 3G to 2G is hopless - am stuck with a crippled 3G network at home

This is so stupid - as though the battery drain problem is not bad enough - now I can't even make a decent call.

I pratically disabled most of the features that makes 4S a smartphone - now with a dumbphone on IOS 5.0.1 - battery life still *****...... my goodness... I know why they call this piece of **** MAGIC. It has the ability to irritate the **** outta me.

My guess is that the "hardware" component contributes more to the problem than the software. Most IP4s don't have the battery problem. Coming from a 3GS - I hit myself mental in the head repeatedly for getting this piece of ****.

Seems like you either return it or live with whatever this piece of MAGIC has to offer.

In Singapore - there's practically no return policy - I guess I'll have to sell this or throw it outta my window.

Unlike Microsoft - APPLE designs (at least have total control over) both hardwares and softwares. There is very little excuse for you guys to screw up as badly as this. You HAD 16 months to surprised us .......

Time you have mentioned, is it standby time or usage time?

    A little of both.

I was playing, "Scarface," with the sound turned down TRYING to drain the battery.

It's now at 57% with only the stopwatch app running.

    9 hours and 53 minutes.

you played 'Scarface' for the full 9hrs and 53mins?

    Trying to understand your usage......

"A little of both" sounds strange - either you're playing or the phone is on standby...

If you say - you've been playing for >5hrs.. than the battery life is amazing

But if you played for less than 10mins.. then ... its a different story.....

"A little of both" - "Off and on."

    lollllll

    lolll

    loll

Well, don't forget the phone is rated for 10 hrs video, 40 hrs audio so who knows, maybe it's 20hrs video with no sound lolllll. One could also try "slow motion playback" to see how much "usage" one can get out of that lollll.

I see no difference from 5.0. Still terrible battery life. 1 hour oh usage = 79%. Unhappy.
