Was running iOS 5.0 yesterday and had great battery life on my iPhone 4.... Update with OTA last night to iOS 5.0.1 and now just sitting at work and not surfing it is down to 55%.  It has only been off the charger for 2 1/2 hours.... I haven't even talked on it today.  Wow Apple... what a fix!

I just had a chat with the apple supporting team on the phone. I reported the update wasn't fully working on fixing the battery problem. What they suggested was to full charge the phone > drain complete > Charge fully > drain fully ....2 or 3 times. I said I did it when it was on IO5, but the man said, IO5.0.1 needs to do the same. I don't know if they are professinal supporting team with IT background, as battery is hardware, do I need to going back to the charging-draininig process again? Anyway, this is the advice, maybe can have a try!

I posted this on another thread regarding battery power this morning.

I had the same problems as everyone else regarding loss of power in a dramatic (10-15% drop an hour) way on my iPhone 4s.  I was forced to turn off most of the functionality of the phone to conserve power, and still needed to charge at my office and on the drive home in addition to overnight charging.  I downloaded the 5.0.1 (9A405) update through ITunes yesterday and charged to 100% at about 4 P.M. yseterday EST.  I turned on location services, including camera, apple store, maps, siri, weather, and find my iPhone.  I turned on Compass calibration, cell network search, setting time zone (the big killer before) and traffic.  I turned on Siri raise to speak, and I have bluetooth and wifi running.  I turned on iCloud contacts, calendars and find my iphone.  I understand that contact synching was another heavy drain that I was experiencing.  I turned on iCloud backup.  I switched fetch new mail from manually to push (I'm using exchange to get my gmail, contacts and calendar).  I have turned on notifications for phone, messages, weather widget, calendar, mail, stock widget, facebook (I reloaded facebook because on some complaints it seemed to be a battery problem.). I did keep the iPhone from reporting diagnostics and usage though.  In short I turned almost everything on that was previously turned off.  I also turned on kypass which links updates to dropbox which also previously negatively effected battery usage.

I am now (0740 EST) at 51% and this includes about 2 hours and 52 minutes of netflix, web use over wi-fi, emails, and music.  according to time since last fiull charge I have 2 hours, 53 minutes of usage, and standby of 14 Hours and 54 minutes.  All my contacts are still there in my phone directory, being synched with google contacts, as are all my calendar appointents, again through Google.

Compared to before the update where my phone would have been dead in about 6 hours with minimal use and most everything turned off, this update really seems to have fixed the problem, allowing me to start using all the new features.

I am going to run the iPhone battery down all the way to 0, if it lets me, then do a full recharge and again watch the usage to see if the fix remains in place.  It should, but I want to make sure.  Hope this is an insight into other user experiences regarding the update.

Sure it's best to fully drain after every update, but I really don't think that's necessary to do it each time after every update comes out.

I am aware that some of you will have tried this but can I recommend something to try.

If you have iCloud set up go to Settings -> iCloud -> Storage and Backup and Turn Off iCloud Backup.

This will start backing up when the device is plugged in and connected to wifi but I have noticed that it continues even when disconnected from power and when wifi is turned off.

This can take quite a while particularly if you have a large amount of data on the device.

This was running down my iPad really fast when I updated that to 5.0.

    Hope this helps.

I have a 4S 64GB ATT and I had slight drain with 5.0...... upgraded to 5.0.1 last night drained battery and for about the past hour I have been at my desk here at work running music from my iPhone no charge started with 99% at 96% that is with using it for data service 15mins~ to check stocks, and read a few articles.

The ones who are having the drain what carrier are you running?  What background data services are you running?  I think this will be more helpful to identify the problem other than just blasting Apple or your phone maybe it is something you are running?  Have you updated all your apps?  Just a few question I think might help.

No battery issues here. Never had. I have iPhone 4S and even keep my Bluetooth always on. My phone can last more than 24 hour with over 8 hours of various usage. You can check out your usage with Setting>General>Usage and scroll all the way to the bottom. I even keep my Time Zone setting on in Locations. After upgrading to iOS 5.O.1 I have 91% after 9 hours of standby and over 1 hour of usage.

Since this update specifically fixes a battery usage issue, it could make some sense for THIS update.

After installing iOS 5 in my iPhone 4 I noticed that my battery was dying on me faster that before, that plus a few bugs like the slide bar at the top of the video application that does not want to move most of the time. Anyway, after installing iOS 5.0.1 my battery is in a race from 100% to 0%. What the heck happened? It should have saved me some battery time not the other way around. Please fix. My iPad 2 is also having the same issue.

I have this problem too with iPhone 4S and 5.0.1 with brightness low, location services off, iCloud off, raise to speak off; only thing on is wifi (without ask to join) and push email for 1 account.  Battery is worse than with iOS 5 and way worse than my iPhone 4 with iOS 4.x.x

After installing iOS 5 in my iPhone 4s I noticed that my battery was drying 1% for every 1Min 36Sec. I believe every 1hr 20 Min i will hzave to charge my mobile. And there is no option to downgrade to 5.0. Irretating.
