1st Gen Nano Recall Notification

Finally!  I got notification from Apple this evening that they will be replacing my 1st gen nano.  I had to verify serial number, but other than that they said they will send me packing materials and instructions to send it back and they will send me a replacement.  They didn't say what they would replace it with (refurbish 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen...).  Anyone have an inkling?

    I'm wondering the same thing. I personally love the style and look of my black 1st gen Nano, and have an armband and sleeve for it, so if the replacement is a different model that would be annoying, but if its an upgrade to a current gen model I guess I could live with that.

    My guess is they will simply be shipping refurbished 1st-gen Nanos. They warn that if your unit is personalized, you will not receive a personalized unit back, which is the only "difference" they indicate. So, I'm feeling pretty sure that we'll just be getting the same thing with a new battery. I wouldn't mind at all if they came with a new plastic case, but I'm not going to expect anything because this is cool enough as it is; my battery doesn't last 10 minutes after unplugging the unit from the charger, so I'm happy to get any replacment with a good battery. Also, there is a 90-day warranty on the replacement, which is standard for a refurbished unit; further evidence that it is a refurbished (something).

    I love my original Nano as well. Apparently mine is qualified for replacement as well, and now awaiting the packing materials. Are we to send just the Nano or all that it came with? I suppose some folks may not have a few items from the box. That was quite awhile ago for a purchase. I too am curious what we will receive as a replacement. A refurb of the same model is just fine. A newer gen would be even better

    Six weeks to replace.  My bet is they are refurbing the units as they come in.  Kind of like a iPod Ponzi scheme.

    I'm just glad to find a post on this ... I half-suspected this was a very well-done phishing scheme, especially because you cannot find the replacement program directly on support.apple.com; I can get to it only from the link in the email.

     

    And I'm wrong ... it's on apple.com.

    This article was just released and looks like we're getting another 1st gen.  Which I'm very happy about.  I like my little 1st gen Nano, and I'll still be able to use all my accessories with it!  Thanks Apple!

    I thought this was a scam at first. I have the email that Apple will send a box with shipping instructions which I can take to Australia Post at my convenience but  I also have an email saying to take my nano straight to Australia Post and it must be returned within 10 days. Which should I follow? Does anyone know? Any advice would be appreciated as I don't want to miss out as my Nano works fine at the moment and I would like to keep it going.

    Should I send the enti re box With headphones etc.? Or just the iPod nano ?

    After re-reading the instructions, it looks like you just need to send them the Nano without its box or accessories in the packaging they supply.

     

    Kinda glad we'll be getting replacement 1st gens, as I'm still rather fond of mine :-)

    One of the emails I got said to send only the Nano, without cords, etc. I'm sure these instructions will be repeated in the shipping materials sent to you.

    Oops, Andy beat me to it. There you have it. I do hope they're cosmetically refurbished. Mine was in pretty decent shape, but I'm sure most are scratched up pretty thoroughly.

    I have two 1st gens; a 4GB and a 2GB.  The 4 is in excellent shape and I'm hoping that the replacement looks at least as nice.  The 2, however has seen better days and doesn't work anymore.  I wonder if it'll still be replaced.  I haven't found any terms and conditions on the replacement program.  Has anyone seen a list of restrictions anywhere?

    I hope they give me an option for the latest gen.  Would rather have that one.  It has FM and many more features.

    I asked an Apple store guy today According to him, the replacement be the exact same model.
