I intially had a great battery life for first 2 weeks, lasting 2-3 days before needing charge. Earlier this week, noted marked increase in battery drain, needing to put phone on charge every night, and I've been using the phone less than previously! Updated to 5.01 today, and drain has slowed but still draining more than in the first 2 weeks. Nil new Apps downloaded prior to the marked decrease in battery life. Can't figure why battery life changed, but reading the thread, obviously I'm not the only one.

Hi people, I've bought my iPhone 4s 2 days ago and my battery stated (after 2nd full charge - ermmm where you drain your battery fully and recharge fully without using it) 17 hours standby and 5 hours usage... is this good for an iPhone 4s? I'm new to iPhones so can't really compare.

By the way, with regards to all of these complaints people are posting such as: same problem, my battery *****, battery is draining, etc.I think that if everyone who's complaining here would ring Apple with the complaint, it'd be a completely different thing, this is because Apple isn't going to read all of these posts here. Furthermore, remember when iPhone 4 had an antenna problem, Apple didn't care until the media kicked in...

You mean they use a chip so powerfull  that it's not even able to

manage 3G or 2G  ?  hard to believe. and let me say again that:

if putting in 4S a SIM card not 3G enable ,( only for voice)

then 3G is forced OFF and all battery problems disapeared.

Can work in WIFI doing all you like while battery is going down slowly

in a very normal way and  usage time is not growing while in stanby.

Anyway, nobody is able to explain why identical Iphone4S's

with same settings are  not draining  battery in the same way..

Some are reported very good. Somme others very bad !

May be in factory theyhad  mount  bad tested battery from device serial number xxx

    to YYY..?

By the way, iPhone 4s (UK) doesn't have an option to switch from 3G to GPRS... Orange shop told me that this version is on 3G only =(

    4S - 5.0.1

28 hours Standby, 5 hours Usage (WiFi, Internet, Mail). Everything is on , except Bluetooth, Battery has now 51%.

Problem with fast drain was during the first days, after one week and two complete charges it was ok for me. Last Update improved it a bit more.

    Hi ShoboinNL,

I thought you were on to something with the bars and same carrier. My wife’s iphone 4 and my iphone 4S (both AT&T) showed different bars as you described - 4 - 4bars, 4S - 3bars. I then moved them further apart and switched positions and both bars went up to 5. Maybe just interference with each other.

There is definitely an issue as the device is operating.  Yesterday 11/10 to 11/11 I had the 4S fully charged at 100% before going to bed and I put it in Airplane mode (no WiFi).  When I got up in the morning it was still 100%.  As the day went on, certain application like Facebook seemed to cause it to drop 1% at a time.  I did a hard reset as another poster had mentioned and had recharged it again.  Last night before bed it was at 96%.  I again put it in Airplane mode (no WiFi) and when I got up this morning it was at 93%.  Still better than what I was getting from 5.0, going from 100% to around 90% in the same mode, but the device is still doing something when it should be quiet.

My "idled" apps in the task bar were Settings, Textfree, Facebook, Mail, App Store, Safari and NYTimes.

(Now 92% as I write this)

    Well,

I did test, and little not understand this.

On full brightness, downloaded 4 minutes clip on Youtube by 3G, I lost only 5% battery.

On minimally brightness, wrote 30 messages (just SMS), and rest time its any 16 hours on standby - I lost 30% battery.

    What's going on?

The new ios update has made no difference for me. Overnight my battery drains by approx. 30%.

I wanted to compare the standby drainage relative to my old iphone 3GS, so 3 days ago I fully charged it, and it's still got about 65% of battery life left.

I deleted my exchange account, disabled push of my gmail / contacts, set fetch to manual and deleted iCoud. Now it seems to drain battery at a more normal level. 60 minutes of standby, 5 photos with flash, fiddling around with maps / compass all while wifi enabled drained 2% battery. For an full hour with moderate usage.

It has not been that nice to me before.

***** to not have the workmail (exchange), google stuff / contacts (gmail) and iCloud (photos) working, though. At least this seems to make the product semi-functional until Apple can produce a fix.

My iPhone 4S has lasted just under 2 days repeatedly, with medium usage - if I don't charge it every night it will run out of battery sometime during the afternoon/evening depending on how much i use it. Is this any good? Haven't been able to test 5.0.1 yet as it's currently charging. Very slowly.

People keep on saying "if i switch this feature off it works better" or "When i disable 3G the battery life is longer" - but what's the point in having an iPhone if you can't you all the features?

agilitysteve- In answer to the album art thing(Sorry, there were about a hundred posts in my inbox, I only just saw this), if iTunes can't find the art by right clicking on the selected album/songs and selecting Get Album Artwork, then create a folder specifically for album art, search Google Images[album, (title), (artist's name)], select a decent size image(300 x 300- 400 x 400?), and save to that folder. Right click on album/song in iTunes, select info and follow the prompts.

You can also find these steps on YouTube. I've found Google to be a better source of information than the Apple Store, on occasion.
