Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    My experience this morning: Good

Took iPhone 4S off charger at 100%. Left it on but didn't use it (that was HARD to do! LOL ) After 3.5 hours charge was still at 100%!

With some heavy email checking (almost constant), app store browsing, and 15 minutes worth of talking over the last 2 hours the charge is down to 82% (ALL with wi-fi not 3G).

That sounds pretty realistic to me. I think the mystery battery drain is not a problem for my iPhone anymore.

The real test of battery capacity will come when I can talk for at least an hour and see how much that uses up.

    Pushes: Off

    SIri: On Raise: off

    Location: On

    wi-fi: On

    Bluetooth: Off

    Charging: Wall

    iCloud: Off

    iMessenger: On

    Mail: imap servers on manual

    Brightness: 50%

Apps: Like 40, too long to list. No Games.

Did not have Apple migrate data. Sync with iMac OS 10.6.8

    Network Apps: Facebook, OKCupid

    iPhone 4S, 32mb, Verizon, NYC

    Does anybody care?

I just wanted to report that I'd done a hard reset yesterday and charged my phone to 100%. I made 4 phone calls (on E for EDGE on ATT) totaling 16 minutes altogether and my battery still said 100%.  :clapping:

Must be an iPhone 4 problem.  I picked up my 3Gs early this morning.  It was at 100% battery - straight from the charger.  I've been using it at a fairly normal rate today, ans at 1:43 PM it is still at 93%.  Doesn't seem too bad to me...???

It can't be an iphone 4 problem. I have two of them ( one personal and one for work), both of them with ios5. No problem at all. On the contrary, I've notice a slightly improvement in battery life!

I bet that is a configuration problem, maybe a bug triggered by some strange combination of enabled features.

It doesn't seem related to any device ( 3gs, 4 or 4s) at all. People are experiencing this problem regardless of the device used.

I still think that a factory reset and a configuration from scratch could solve everything.

i have done the update, I have done the restore i have done the full discharge and recharge turned everything off in settings left it all day not used it apart from sedning about 8 texts, and 3 min call and its drained from 100% to 70% not opened any apps not played games not listened to music I have done nothing else apart form the above and its drained that much from about 4:30am when i took it off charge when it was done and now which is 20:15 in the UK on orange network.

Its my first Iphone so i do not know if thats good or not, all I know is that i would expect it to last more then that with little to no usage. My HTC hero did would loose about 6-10% in a day without use and only a few things turned off.

    Any help advice?

    Thanks

i guess the battery issue in the ios5 walked bypass me

i have an iphone 4 16gb white, bought it about a month ago

battery life was about the same under ios5

i installed ios 5.0.1, no issues found

mostly all my settings are off except icloud sync for contacs and calendars

push/fetch set to off, all location settings off, wify/3g/edge internet disabled most of the time, bluetooth off

    these nearly 9 hours include:

    • 1-2 hours of photo browsing/editing using photoshop
    • 3 hours of music through in-ear headphones
    • 30 minutes call time through gsm
    • 30 minutes playing game like tap tap 4
    • general usage

You can't officially, go back to a prior IOS from a restore or reset, but you can dowload a previous firmware and then do a "click" and restore from a PC keyboard or Option button on mac, I believe.  You'll need to download the IOS firmware from the net.  This is what I'm attempting to do.  I was better at holding off for a real fix rather than this 5.0.1 fiasco. I went from 75% to 58% overnight without doing anything. LOL.

I wasn't experiencing significant issues with 5.0; but with 5.0.1 I've experienced rapid battery drain on multiple occasions. The phone gets quite warm and show's network usage during that time.

The hard reboot is very helpful - battery life is much improved for my 4S.

I've noticed something odd after upgrading my 4s to iOS 5.0.1, which is this:

the battery never reaches 100% charge, even after depleting to less than 20% and then charging overnight, the percentage is only 92%. The other day it was 93%. It's strange that it never reached 100%, like it did prior to the upgrade to iOS 5.0.1.  I'm starting to think that if I "loose" 1% at each attempt to fully charge, it about 4 months, the battery will not hold any more charge. Am I wrong to think that way? This has never happened to my iPhone 4, or the 3Gs for that matter.

    Any one else experience this?

Coming from a samsung windows 7.5 phone I have to admit I am disappointed with the iphone4s and it's battery life. It chews through the juice like no device I've ever used before. I had to turn absolutely everything off before I saw a marked improvements in battery life.

    Siri - Off

    Push - Off

    Location Services - Off

    Notifications - Off

    Bluetooth - Off

One thing that did fascinate me was that leaving the Wifi Radio turned On seemed to make little to no difference in the battery life of the iphone4s.

I've now updated to iOS 5.0.1 and I'm hoping to see an improvement in the battery life. If I don't see an improvement, i'm switching back to to a windows phone or giving an android device a run for it's money.

What's the point of having all these neat features that you barely get to use throughout the day?
