Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

After reading all this, I would say Thank God, I did not get in line to buy 4S and I did not update to 5.0 on my existing  iPhone 4. My iPhone 4 battery is great (touch wood) and I am not upgrading to 5.0...

I don't know why apple does not let you downgrade to previous version.

To repeat something I've added in one of the other many threads that may be useful

Well, I've done what someone else suggested:

    - hard reset

    - restore from backup

    - restore as new iPhone

    - full charge

    - let it full discharge

    - full charge using Battery Doctor app

And now my phone's reporting 100% battery still after 25 minutes of not being connected to a charger. It was previously losing 1% a minute whilst idle. Will see how it goes overnight.

"Those who do not read are no better off than those who cannot." Since I've joined the forum you're the only one I've seen who has made such a well advised decision... a rare feat amidst the user base!

I wonder if 4.3.5 could run on the 4S? ...a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

Hey that sounds fine compared to me.

I hadn't turned anything off and the phone was at 100 % when I went to bed, when I wake up its 50 % I would be very pleased with 5 % i'm trying the turning off the location services and the timezone thing off see if it helps. Also I had just updated last night my ipad to the new iOS and the battery is completly flat this morning!

Pretty annoyed now as im about to travel to work and spend the day in airports and both forms of my entertainment will probably last a few hours.

Will post if the things I mentioned worked.

    Thanks alot apple.

What is considered normal battery drainage?    I had my 4S fully charged at 100% at 6pm last night.  Now 11 hours later with no usuage at all it's down to 89%.  Would this be considered normal drain?

Don't waste your time/money buyinig battery doctor.

It doesn't do anything that you couldn't do without it...

It's just making the full recharge cycle more visible but it will NOT make any improvements to the battery.

In my opinion it's a lot of bulls***

My battery is dropping like **** since the new update

While on standby it drps about 2 % per hour which means an estimated standby time of 50 hours

Not bad for an 50€ phone...

I even got the best solution:

    Want better battery-life?

    Turn it off lol

Things I have tried with pretty good success:

Close apps running in background, esp those that use mobile data and locations

Turn off mobile data and location services when not required

Change diagnostics and usage data to don't send

Minimize the number of apps in the notifications list

Turn off raise to speak for siri

    Blue tooth off

Stop using iCloud (My iMac is on OS leopard and iCloud not compatible anyway, so think there may be an issue there)

Date and Time, set automatically turn to off

Turn phone off after plugging in to recharge

It may not be necessary to do all of these, but your can try them to see which helps.

ok i 'thought' my battery life was fine and all compared to everyone else until i ran a test last night..

Usually i turn off mobile data when it isn't required (overnight) which is probably why my battery life has appeared to have been acceptable.

On previous occations, with mobile data turned off overnight, on a 100% charge, i would barely see any change 7 hours later in the morning, as the battery would report back as 98/99%.

Last night however, i thought i'd leave mobile data on and see how much drainage that would cause battery life. I only slept 6 hours last night and from a 100% charge at 12am, at 6am my battery was down to 79%, this was completely on standby only.

I don't think that would quite meet the 200 hours standby time, at that rate i would be looking at 30 hours stanby time at best. I'd therefore like to know whether everyone else who is suffering from poor battery life has tried turning off mobile data? It could be that the bug is with mobile data itself. The annoying thing is that the 4S doesn't allow you to turn off 3G alone which I would normally do when i was out and about to conserve battery life.

Apple needs to fix this ASAP, otherwise please extend the returns policy as i'd probably be better off with the new Nokia.
