Same problem here. My iPhone 4 worked very fine with my Clarion FZ709 until i updated to iOS 5 :-(. Now the iPhone drops the connection after a fem seconds.
I have reported the problem by mail to Clarion. Asking if they will come out with a firmware update for the FZ709 or ?
Hope that Apple is working on a solution to the problem. It can not be for real that a car stereo is outdated in only 18 months! Come on, this is not rocket science.

I should also add that the USB connection is having issues for me as well. The audio plays fine (the best interface for quality), but it no longer will charge my phone. I seriously doubt that upgrading the OS should prevent my battery from charging, so I think this is a bug as well. I did not report this, but maybe Apple will look into this as well. I don't see why iOS 4 can charge my phone just fine, but iOS 5 cannot.
That being said, bluetooth connectivity is still a bigger priority for me.

Count me as another affected by this stupid bug. I really hope Clarion will come out with an firmware update, but I kind of doubt it because I don't think they have ever done an update for the FZ709. I was hoping the bluetooth would improve with iOS 5 (ie autoplay working when iPhone first connected to BT) but instead it doesn't work at all. But the iOS 5 does work with my wife's Venza. I really don't want to downgrade, so will wait and see how fast a fix will come.

Hi again. Just got a reply on my mail send to Clarion Denmark. The message is that it is not posible to update the Clarion FZ709. So, if any, the help must come from Apple. Hope that there is a fix to the problem in the pipeline.
I really miss my bluetooth connection :.-(

Probably would be a good idea for anyone having the problem (including myself) to log a case with apple . The more open cases the more likely they'd be to address it.

How do I log the case with Apple? I tried, but failed. The Apple Bug Reporter tells me that I have to be a developer which I'm not.

Has anyone tested iOS 5.0.1 on fz709 yet? If so please let us know how it went

Same problem with my Clarion FZ 709 after upgrading to iOS 5. Before this upgrade all works fine. Its no problem with the new iPhone 4s, its a problem with iOS 5. I could re-produce this problem with the new 4s and the older iPhone 4. Both are running iOS 5 and are still not longer able to connect via Bluetooth. After initial pairing the connection get broken after a few seconds. Yesterday i have upgraded both devices to 5.0.1 but the problem is still not fixed. From Clarion i got the feedback that they are not able to fix this issue because it seems that the problem depends on a change by Apple done within the new iOS. So hopefully Apple will recognize this problem and deliver a bug fix within the next iOS upgrade.

Same problem here. I talked to Apple support when I first upgraded to the 4S and they said it was a known problem. After 5.0.1 came out I was hoping it would be fixed, no such luck. I even went in to the Apple store and and had them replace my phone. Hopefully something comes of this soon.

I have exactly the same problem with my Clarion FZ 709. Before upgrading to IOS 5 everything worked perfectly. After upgrading my 3 GS to IOS5 the iPhone connects to the Clarion via Bluetooth and after a few seconds the connection is lost. I hoped that the problem would be solved with my new iPhone 4S, but still the same issue.
Need a fix soon.

Since the phone / pairing works fine with all of my other Bluetooth devices, I'm less inclined to think this is an Apple bug and more of a Clarion implementation issue (ie they didn't fully or properly implement the spec). Like others I've faxed Clarion, although based on the fact that you can't actually reach anyone in their support I'm not hopeful about getting anything from them. The head unit has a USB port, so I'm thinking there is a way to upload new firmware. I don't buy that they can't or won't do anything. This one seems like it might take the threat of a class action suit. I guess my next call is to Amazon since that's where I bought it, less than a year ago.
