Does Match support streaming of songs or is it just downloading songs to your device?

It does both, kinda....when you play a song, it places it on your device...perhaps it starts to play before it is fully on the device.  You can delete it from your device so that it doesn't take up space.  I prefer streaming..if you have an iPhone or iPad, check out ORB ... I stream from my macpro over wifi and 3g...all my songs and playlists!

That was my question as well.  It seems to be streaming but I think Only XM is right, it is downloading the song onto my device and it starts playing before it's finished.

After I turned on Match, I had almost my entire library "available" on my iPhone 4S to play.  These songs were not sync'd to the device prior to that.  I don't know the long term results of this (would every song I chose from Match fill up my iPhone hard drive?) but it was interesting having all of that available while I drove.  Also explains why the album art wasn't available when I played the songs from the cloud.

It seems like I can't play my matched songs when I am away from wifi, in other words, can't stream via the cellular network. Is this by design or do I have some setting messed up? You say you were playing the songs in your car so maybe you know the answer!

go to settings\store and turn "use Cellular Data" on. Like X said, it streams while it down loads. When turning WiFi off and using the Verizon 3G network, sometimes it works, sometimes I get errors.

Reading the help files, it is suggested that once ITunes match is turned on, syncing with iTunes will not include music and supposedly, it deletes your music files on your device. I have turned Match off and darn..all my music is still there.

I suppose time will reveal a great deal. Overall, I'm pleased.

Aha! thank you. I thought I saw a message about that flash by but couldn't find the setting. I have not found that it deleted any music off my phone yet either.  Yes, we will learn a lot in the next couple of weeks. So far so good for me too.

From what I can tell it won't delete music that is on the device if it is also already in itunes match.  A trick if you have a lot to transfer over is to turn match off on the device, sync what you want from itunes, and then turn match back on on the device.  Just make sure music you syncd matches music on match.  It should if you sync with a libarary on a mac or pc that has match turned on.

However, on larger libraries, i'm finiding it takes 10 to 20 minutes to turn match back on.  I think it has to redownload the match library info to the device which depending on the network speed and load on the servers can take awhile.
