Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Or why 20 + 0 > 13870 lolllll.

At last a trend may emerge. One can most likely infer the following:

1- The 5.0.1 delta cannot sanitize 5.0; only the full rebased 800mb release seem to do the job

2- A pre-5.0 restore cannot be trusted on 5.0-5.0.1 unless it's been sanitized by restoring to then from using 5.0-5.0.1

So there's many levels of screwing up in there lolllll.

    Good luck!

You are not far from the truth.

I believe they might have changed the structure of the database in 5. So pre 5 restore might have corrupted the data running on 5.

I remember when updating from 2.x to 3.0 they changed the structure as well, and my contacts was corrupted, and some went missing.

Some non 5 conforming apps are crashing when i run them. Some crashed and reloaded succesfully.. some simply couldnt run.

As to how well a delta could sanitize a 5 succesfully... i have no idea. This is their first delta anyway. Lots of room for improvement. Makes me wonder how big is the iOS source code..

Oh by the way, i have a few crash log..., low memory, field test .... etc. But never had low battery crash log.

Well my iPhone is on iOS 5 ( not updated )and its running fine. Lasts two days 10 hours without charge and still at 21%.

After reading your posts, I'd rather wait for 5.0.2 or 5.2 or whatever it is you guys call it :)

Btw usage time is 22 hours 21 mins as of this moment

No offence, but if you had any clue as to why this thread has 5000+ posts, or even had understood the last 3-4 posts, you would simply not update, wait until every thing is cleaned up, and continue you audio playback with your 5-15mins mixed 3G call/internet usage a day for some 8 more hours or so.

Btw Miless, if there's any truth in what I had said, that would simply come from your debug procedure and this other guy chris's comment. Anyways, take care!

Amazing usage and standby time. I believe yours is a 4S ?

If you dont update to 5.0.1 , just becareful when downloading apps from App Store. The well publicized Java script security hole could be exploited unless you patch it with 5.0.1.

Interestingly, i have a 3GS running on 5.0.1 delta update. Its sitting in my drawer with sim card attached, switched on, but no one using it. The phone could be on standby for 3 days, with about 1 hour usage (on what, i really dont know.... probably responding to some location service's ping) and still with about 20% battery. I'll get some screenshot and post it here.

If you are using 3G UMTS to access Safari, it's normal to have battery drain because the published internet surfing on 3G is 6 hours.

Try the update... try OTA delta first. If its bad, then try full restore via iTunes. But be forewarned... you battery life could be bad after update.

In my case the battery problem went away after updating to IOS 5.0.1 and deselecting wifi-sync in iTunes.

    Start :

    Final_test_start.PNG

    Stop

    Final_test_stop.PNG

This used to be like this ( with itunes wifi sync ON ) :

    bad_case_start.PNG

    bad_case_stop.PNG

The phone was idling and still showing usage. Note the battery drop about 3 percent / hour.

In my Wifi-Router log i see that my iphone 4s connects and disconnect every second.

With ios 5.0 and ios 5.01.

My iPhone 4 and iPad 1 don´t do that.

Something on this device connects all the time. (also over 3g i think)

Such a disapointment Apple. I bought the iphone 4s with my hard earn money only to have to put up with this battery crap.

Apple said that they're fixed the battery bug in 5.0.1. To my dismay after installing the update, my battery life is now worsen.

I've mention this issue to all my friends and families.

They definitely staying away from your new iphone 4s product until this issue gets solve!

I drained the battery to zero, and it was fine when charged. 100% in 6 houers (standbymode) then i discoved that the phone could not receive any masseges ore calls. Restarted it, and now it is ok, but it is draining faster now. Thats why i think it is the software, not the battery.

Siri has nothing to do with it.  My daughter has a 4 which had no problems with battery life until the update.  She had the phone at school from 8-3 on silent obvioulsy no calls or txt and went from 100%-8%. Cupertino you will loose customers if you dont communicate. Its one thing to play your games about the relase of hardware, its another to play games with people that have paid $500 for a misrepresented device.  WE NEED INFORMATIONA DN WE NEED IT NOW

Look at the bright side! I guess your daughter will be focusing on her homework after school now instead of text messaging her little firends since we all know students never use their phones in school during the day! As she gets better grades and sharpens her skills, she'll learn how to elaborate arguments without the need to resort to capitalization in order to make a point! She may also improve her reading skills and creativity so she may try the procedure she'll find on page 369. Think different!
