Just the same thing for me here.
My workaround for the moment ... use a smal Tool called "findanyfile" which does a good job.

but for me there is no thinkable reason why!
the same server volumes, some afp some smb
cmd-f ... and there it is
the only thing done so far is restarting the Mac about two times

The only explaination would be that it took a bit longer to re-index files stored on your network connected drives than it did to re-index files on your local drives.

I've had this problem since day one with Lion as well. Trying to seach files on my work server and once you begin the seach the finder is blank. I let it sit for over 10 minutes "searching" and nothing has happened. Local searches still work fine but it is a hassle to have to search through 600 files alphabetically instead of just typing it out. Any luck yet?

I am experiencing the same bug, neither of my Lion machines will search a mounted volume from the finder search bar.

I am having the same problem. I select a mounted drive, then try to type into the search box and it switches to selecting the boot drive instead. This is lame!

I am having the same thing wrong with mine. Snow leopard never had this issues with our servers. There is not even a progress icon so you have no glue what it is doing.

Same problem here.
We are using all of our Macs all day for business purposes. Right now the most simple tasks takes 2 times as long als usual with this bug.
Please fix this problem soon since this is an very important one in the business world.

I have no problem to search in the sharepoint root directory. So if i access a sharepoint on the Lion server with AFP and then start to search in that Finder window, it works fine.
But if i go to a folder and start to search it don't work at all. Which is strange, because the index DB has the information it need.
