Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Mine gets HOT when 3g data is used (ex: when on Yahoo Messenger it drains 1% / 3-4 minutes!!)

In stand-by it drains about 2-5%/hour with NO use. When I use it (for example: unlocking the phone and checking the mail - no push/fetch - only manual - 1% of the battery is immediately drawn.. if i read one e-mail and look into the calendar for upcoming events it draws another 1%).. What I mean is that in stand-by, the consumption is ..fair but when i USE it the battery seems to go nuts! Can't wait for the 5.0.2

I also have battery life issues. eg Why is a GPS signal required to set the time? When using BTopenzone and not using the phone for 15 mins the line disconnects but the wi-fi signal remains on. This loss of communication seems to result in higher battery use?

My phone has gone from 100% charge to dead in less than 6 hours.

I have cellular services turned off so this should not be adding to the issue.

Mine observations on iPhone 4s - 16g -5.0.1... Loose 1% at night, 8 hours. Loose 70% than next 7 hours of very active usage: WiFi, 3g, games (simple but...) GPS navigation...

The same thing was at my previous one which I replaced due do dead camera...

Turned off locatin service, push e-mails, bluetooth and everything then it last barely a day, on top of that battery is sucked with "no service" issue, it keeps searching for network all the time. Highly dissapointed, might switch to Android. iPhone doesn't work as PHONE, what is it? Rip-o-ipod-touch?

My original 4s lost power so fast I exchanged it at the Apple store for a new one. That solved the problem! Good battery behavior. But then I installed the new OS 5.01 and battery problems returned (not quite as bad as the original phone, but pretty bad). For example, five hours ago I fully charged it to 100%. Then I put it into standby. When I woke it back up it reported that it had been in standby for 5 hours (correct) and that its usage was 1 hour 30 minutes!!! And the battery had, in five hours of standby, drained down to 80%!!! What in the world is it doing while in standby that drains the battery like that. It's supposed to go 200 hours in standby, but mine will only go 25 hours before the battery is totally dead. What is it about OS 5.01 that ruined my battery charge?

Great idea to do a survey, though I'm unclear who benefits from your data gathering. Happy to contribute...

One issue: your providers are only US companies. Can you add international ones or at least a box stating ;'none of the above'?

I can't complete the survey until you do.

    Thanks

@ MAC-ASSIST - I have a 16GB/White/ATT iPhone. I don't have Exchange on my phone. Not sure if my battery drainage is normal or not though. It seems to drop too fast except when using Safari and then the amount of percentage dropped an hour seems correct.

@ marianfrommiami - I really don't want to Jailbreak my iPhone. It means having to Jailbreak it once a new opperating system update from Apple comes out. I used to Jailbreak my 3G all the time like that, and I noticed a SEVERE slowdown in performance after a while, even after a total restore. I don't trust the constant fidgiting with hacked software anymore.

Since I've been following this thread since it was like only 10 pages long...

I was having poor battery life when I got my ATT 4S opening weekend.

I did some of the tweaks people mentioned here:

Use location services & notifications only on limited apps where its actually needed

Shut off the auto time zone thing

    Do not send diagnostics

Manually retrieve email (I do not use any exchange server email accounts)

Now I can pretty much last all day with "normal" usage (indicated 2-3 hours) and still have around 50% left.

This is not as good as my iPhone 4 with iOS 4x, where with limited usage it would last 2 days and still have almost 50% left. This 4S could not do that.

Interestingly, if I recall correctly my old 4 would get roughly 6 hours of usage time and I was happy with that. If I extrapolate useage of my 4S it seems roughly the same based on my indicated uasge at the end of the day before I go to bed (i.e. last night I was at 2.5 hours of usage and 60% battery remaining).

The difference is that I don't think I'm actually using my 4S for the amount of time it says I am. If I take my phone off the charger and let it sit completely idle for an hour and then check usage, it might say something like 8 minutes of usage. What are those 8 minutes? It was completely untouched for the hour and fetch mail is on manual. So I suspect that in my case the phone is doing something in the background that increasing usage and draining battery. If usage were actal time I used the phone I think my 4S would be same as my 4.

Also, since iOS5 my original iPad has great battery life.

I have two iPads (versions 1 and 2) and installing i0s 5 caused no battery problems with them. The one in the kitchen is left in standby for days with no significant battery loss. Leave my iPhone 4s in standby for a few hours and you're down 20% on the battery's charge. What kind of leaking is going on in this phone while it's asleep?

Hmmm......I got a replacement 4s yesterday and all seemed fine.  I woke up this morning at 4:45 and it said 76%, but within literally 15 minutes, it drained down to 71%!!!   What the?????   And now I'm noticing it's draining just as fast as my previous phone.  I wish apple would come out with an admission that there is indeed a problem.  I have all the usual crap turned off.  Maybe this is apples version of "bloatware".

"Now it's the third day since battery drain is stopped.

After a full night stand by, 99% remaining .and usage time reported as 2 minutes!"

YOU LIE! How can this be possible, even if one of your full nights are 6 hours long that would mean the iPhone 4s has a standby time of 600 hours which is 3x the amount stated by apple.

    I smell a troll...
