I had taken my time now observing my battery after 5.01 and for me the stanby time has improved.

100% battery at bedtime with no usage and 9 hours later battery was at 96%, usually it would of been at 75% before.

However when the device is actually being used the consumption goes thru the roof!  That part of the battery issue might of even become worst than it was with 5.01.  All I did is make one 30 minute call this morning and I went from 96% to 85%.  Unacceptable!

P.S.  I do have Bluetooth, GPS and PUSH on all the time as I always have.

I had great battery life before the upgrade it 5.0.1 but now it's terriable. Before I could go almost 2 days between charges. One note I do not use bluetooth.

Well yesterday I charged it to 100% then unplugged it at 11 PM. I made sure every app was off, no bluetooth, no location sevices.

Woke up at 7 AM it's down to 88%

it's 9:45 and now it is at 54%

It seems to get worse everyday! I now am carrying a charger everywhere. I just weant it to last a day again.....

As mine, 99% charge at midnight, charger off - 98% at 7am. Features on - GPS, wifi, diagnostic, push...

I wonder if it would help for people to also post screenshots from their phone showing the usage page, including the battery percentage?

Settings>General>Usage Then scroll to the bottom.

Press the sleep/wake button and then immidiately the home button to take a screenshot.

Then list if services are on/off. Let us know if "Find My iPhone" is on. How bright was your screen? List the average kind of use you had (playing apps, surfing web, texting, making phone calls, etc). Do you have sounds on/off? Vibrate on/off?

We'll know if WiFi and Bluetooth are on/off based on the icons at the top of the screen.

Question #8 isn't exactly clear. Most people with the battery issue can get more than 8 hours standby time (although many phones will die overnight).

Usage rates are much much lower.

I can have my phone on standby for almost a 24 hr period, but if I use it it won't last more than 2.5 hours on average. I actually tested this, charged phone to 100%, then talked to a friend until the battery died 168 minutes later.

I've noticed that my phone gets extremely warm when using 3G as well, a white 64GB 4S with 5.0.1.

Oddly, it gets warmer using 3G when talking then when using GPS apps like Waze or Find My Friends.

Very interesting, W. Raider. You get only 2hrs and 48min of talk when Apple claims up to 8hrs of talk on 3G. I'll have to test that out myself... though I do hate talking on the phone. So, hm.

I can add a second result to standby time. I see almost NO battery drain when the iPhone is in standby more. But as soon as it's in use, that's when things drop fast. Using Safari though seems to yeild advertised battery life. I was getting about 6hrs use using Safari which is what Apple claims.

Have you guys installed the 800mb release of 5.0.1 using Itunes instead of the 50mb OTA to see if it makes a difference?

If you are on 5.01 and still having problems, NOTHING will make a significant difference, onther than waiting for 5.02, or shutting all features off.   Doesn't the 389 pages in this thread make that clear to everyone?????

Not really. It just so happens that this is the first time Apple is doing a delta. Further, on this thread and on the 5.0.1 worst thread, everytime someone reinstalled using the 800mb release, there was less drain. Finally, there are less posts so something must be happening too. I don't know where you're coming from. If there's something that those 389 pages prove, it's that people can't read past the last page.

Please, everyone raise a hand if you use iCloud services (mostly do).

And check if when during a call, there's a spinning wheel in the menu bar, like syncing something / using the internet, even though it's not necessary at all.

I insist, it's a syncing loop bug. Needs to be fixed asap.

There are less posts because people are losing interest and the issue is getting old........   Not to mention the annoyance of navigating nearly 400 pages of repetitive drivel.   There are also several competing (and smaller) threads now.

Fact is that APPLE knows there is an issue and is working on it.   Fact is that once the so called "fixes" offered here are tried, they either help or they don't, at which time it becomes a matter of waiting for 5.02 and living with the problem, or shutting stuff off and crippling the phone features.

Frankly, I am able to make it through the day with ~~30% battery remaining by the time I turn in for the night.   I charge every night as I did with my iPhone 4 and before that, my 3Gs.    iOS 5.0 gave me about the same performance as 5.01.   For those expecing to acheive APPLE's claim of 200 standby hours, I'll challenge them to show any cell phone that lives up to the manufacturer's claims for battery life.

I'm not expecting more than an incremental improvement from 5.02, when it is released.   I like the phone, am satisfied that I can live with it as is and am reading this thread more for entertainment than for the delusional belief that after all this, someone is going to come up with a miraculous solution to the issues.

I found out somthing by reading alot. It seem that the problem for me at least is in settings. I read that there is an error log that is eating up cpu cycles. sure enough when i checked my core monitor app thee it was the cpu was running at 55 to 60% all the time. I shut down the backgrounds no change. But when I shut the sync services in icloud it went away. In turn my battery has only droped 1% in an hour just sitting idle. I am not an expert but it seems that the issue is software and it is in the contacts sync. I hope this helps everyone and that Apple fixes it soon!!!!

The battery bug was reproduced on a clean install iPhone 4S( Install from Phone, not from iTunes or DFU ). So nothing was installed except the default iCloud account and location settings on.

That rules out any Apps that could interfere.

Just keeping you all updated about the progress.
