Q: iTunes Match keeps crashing!

iTunes Match keeps crashing while gathering information from my iTunes library!

I have restarted my iMac and tried again. I submitted crash reports to Apple.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Lion on iMac

Same issue for me. I've had to force quit restart it about 10 times now.

3 days in and I'm still stuck on Step 2.

On the phone to Apple Care now. They say iTunes does not support external or network drives.

Maybe that's my problem? But iTunes was working perfectly fine before I activated Match.

That's a garbage explanation by AppleCare.  My library is on my Air and I'm experiencing the same thing.  A crash just as step 2 completes each and every time.

My library doesn't get any closer to completing after the crash either.  I consistently have 1,453 tracks left "waiting".

The only way to keep iTunes from crashing now is to manually turn off iTunes Match before step two completes.

It always has before.  And if that were the case they should document that somewhere, that's the first I've ever seen that.  Maybe that is the case but I'd be more inclined to think the AC person didn't know what they were talking about.

    iTunes Match Crash Solved

    1. Add the iCloud Status column via the View menu under View Options

    2. Sort iTunes Library by iCloud Status by clicking the heading for that column

    3. Select songs that have an "Error" Status

    4. Drag Error status songs to a folder on your desktop

    5. Delete Error status songs from iTunes Library

    6. Resume iTunes Match. With Error status songs removed it should alliviate the crash

    7. When iTunes Match completes successfully then copy Error status songs back to iTunes library and don't try to match them.

I imagine an update to iTunes will alliviate the Error status and subsequent crash.  Some of my Error status songs were songs that had serious audio artifacts so removing them stoped the crash.

No songs are listed in error status and still crashes 100% of the time.

My iTunes is running on latest Lion release.  iTunes crashed at least 100 times.  I added a daemon using Lingon that kept iTunes open all the time and I used Cocktail to eliminate the crash dialogue that pops up after each crash.  Do you have files that have a "Waiting" status? Perhaps remove all of those then add them back a bit at a time until you find the problem music file or files.  I had to create several Smart Playlists to isolate the issue.  I have this feeling it is some kind of a memory leak in iTunes that is exacerbated by problem files. Thats all I have for you right now.  But keep an eye on CNET's macfix. I'm sure they will mention it soon..

    HI, Wouter,

I try your work a round but since my library as more than 25.000 songs I can't go past the iTunes Match Warning and iTunes Match won't even start.

    Sincerely Marc

I've tried for about a day and a half to Match my 132,370 songs.  It's frozen at certain steps and now consistantly crashes at the beginning of step 3 where it has to load about 3,000 songs and art work.  I give up.  So how does Apple give me my money back?

Have you tried the various methods to clear out problematic uploads listed here and elsewhere?  This is how I managed to get everything working...

iTunes Match seemed to want to fight me the entire way but I beat it and now it's working, at least for me.

    Hope that helps!

I gladly admit i drank the Kool Aid and love Apple, but Hate the way they fail to support their products and release them as almost pre-beta programs and products at times.  For $25.00 a year i should not have to use a "work around" and control click anything...the damned sync process should simply work...my iTunes has crashed so often with Music Match in the iCloud that i'm signing it up for collision insurance.  Even while writing this i was greeted with yet another Pop Up telling me iTunes quit unexpectedly and i have a relatively small music collection, so i can only imagine the frustration for those with larger libraries to back up...

I have been having this same problem for 2 weeks.

Everything worked fine until Itunes match began step 3.  The first 400 or so songs uploaded just fine and then it crashed.  Ever since then itunes has crashed as soon as it reaches step 3.

I have removed all songs with "errors" or "not eligible". Only song status on my music lists are "matched","uploaded" or "waiting".

I called apple the rep told me to wait and see what song it was stuck on then remove that song or album and try again.  After waiting 3 to 4 mins to see what song it is getting stuck on and then removing.... multiple times.  The problem persists.

Would really appreciate if anyone has a suggestion for fixing this problem.

Although it's early days (I still have 75 GB left to upload) Match has been working seamlessly for me since I replaced my cable modem yesterday.  Previously it had taken me 2 weeks to upload a quarter of my library 10 songs at a time (then it would freeze).  At the same time I had noticed my internet connection was a bit patchy (sometimes would freeze, slow up etc.).  I took back my cable modem yesterday and swapped it for a new one; so far Match has worked without a hitch.

I wonder if the network code server side is unduly sensitive to dropped / janky connections?  If so, it might explain why things kept freezing up.  Don't know if this will help anyone else, but it seems to have worked for me...

I've just found this thread, searching as, er, iTunes kept crashing.  In fact it was permenantly hung, from loading.

    Windows 7 PC.

Solution: browsed tasks running, I didn't recognise "apsdaemon.exe" - and description wasn't helpful, so I stopped it.  iTunes then sprung into life, apsdaemon has reloaded itself and all seems well...
