Q: No AirPlay mirroring button on iPad 2, ios5?

Double-touching the home button on my iPad 2, ios5 and swiping to the right should reveal an airplay button to mirror my iPad display to my TV (thru AppleTV). But there is no button. Anyone know why?

What do you mean? There is a port on the back of the device, grab a cable and connect to iTunes

Okay it works this is what I did:

Pkug apple tv 2 to computer, turn iTunes and restore to factory.

One completed plug back to your tv and check setting and you will see latest update.

Restart iPad 2 and that is it.

i have all new and most updated software, rebooted it all as normal with pcs (tho I was led to believe that apple was better than this)

and still no airplay icon at all, not sure I had one before I got OS5 to be honest

is this poor level of service typical of apple then?

and are you suggesting that it will come in future "updates"?

Mirroring is a feature of IOS 5, you wouldn't have seen it before. General airplay was available prior.

Also, for mirroring it depends on your device as it only works on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S

You need to have devices on the same network and can also check network for issues

Sometimes the devices don't connect properly so in order to fix this you need to restart our internet and hopefully soon enough after some time the button should appear. It works for me always.

I had this same problem (no mirroring button) on November 20, 2011. Here's what happened... and how I resolved it (thanks to the collective advice on this thread):

First, I have an iPhone4S, an iPad2, and the newest AppleTV2 device. Mirroring was working fine until I updated to iOS 5.0.1 on my iPad and iPhone (using iTunes) without updating AppleTV to its corresponding newest releast. This mis-match caused the loss of mirroring capability.

When I updated AppleTV* to the newest release -- 4.4.3 (3323) as of now -- everything started working again. Specifically, I doubleclick the home (circular) button, swipe the processes list (at the bottom of the screen) all the way to the left (by swiping my finger to the right that is), touch the AppleTV icon (the rectangle with an arrow in the bottom), and select Apple TV. At this point, you'll see a slider for the "Mirroring" option. Set it to "On".

    * - FYI, no need to use USB / iTunes to upgrade the AppleTV software. With your AppleTV device on WiFi, click to the "Settings" menu, select "General" and then "Update Software". Further, I didn't need to reboot my router/WiFi, or my iPad or iPhone. Still, those are good suggestions if you're still having trouble. The "hard reboot" -- holding the home and power button until the Apple logo appears on the screen -- is a good trick to know but always the last resort.

I have had the same problem, however on the iPad 2 double click the home button twice and scroll across to the left not the right as many suggest. There you will find the icon.

I was having the same problem, couldn't find the airplay icon...tried all of the suggestions and couldn't find it... Decided to read my manual on the iPad and found the AirPlay section, it suggested to go to my pics or videos and play one on the iPad, and then click on the airplay icon on the top menu bar....the iPad automatically sent the picture to the tv!   And then I looked for the icon on the bar after clicking the home button twice, scrolled left and there was the AirPlay icon....I clicked on it and turned on mirror and it worked! I didn't know what the icon looked like until I saw the image in the manual on page 85!

Hope this works for everyone else!

I also had no airplay button in with double click home + swipe left trick. Decided to restart the ipad (mini). That solved it. Hope this also works for others.

I just figured it out today! My iPad 3 didn't have an airplay button and I couldn't figure out how to get it. What you have to do is turn on the BLUETOOTH in the settings on the iPad. Then you turn on another Bluetooth device, in my case it was an iMac. (The button has never showed up when I connect my apple keyboard...) Then once you pair them the button shows up when you double click the home button and swipe right. I don't know if this will work for everyone but it worked for me!
