Nov 12, 2011 3:29 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by brettfromriverton,Have the same problem however if I check the "Prevent iPods from syncing automatically" in prefs-->devices then it does not start.
I have heard it has something to do with the new ability to sync over wifi, that any i-device on your wifi causes iTunes to start even if it is not one of the devices you sync with.
For me, I have my kids devices that they sync with their own computers, but think theirs is causing my iTunes to launch simply cos it is on the same home wifi.
Theory anyway.
I am about to get all the kids iPods and my devices (iPod/iPad) to disable the wifi sync and see if that helps.

Nov 14, 2011 1:16 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by franfromgenzano di roma,It seems it worked! I noticed that the icon of my iPhone appears on iTunes after awhile since it automatically opened, even if the phone is not connected to the pc, neither via usb nor via wifi.
I clicked on the iPhone icon in iTunes and unchecked the 'SYNC WITH WIFI' option.
iTunes is not starting up automatically since then. I hope it keeps like that.

Nov 22, 2011 5:44 AM in response to GKumarby Ahito,Hi. This worked for me - for now. I deleted from home/Library/Preferences/:
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
After deleting - while iTunes was running - I quit the app and it stayed that way. I restarted and quit it a couple of times and it still behaves normal.

Jun 15, 2012 5:11 PM in response to Paul Keeton1by dellr,In most instances it's a peripheral causing iTunes to start automatically or a remote from another device Apple device (i.e. Apple TV).
I've even seen headphone with vol. control have adverse effects with both iTunes and iPhone.
I had a pair of headphone that would cause the Voice Control to contstanly open when connected to my phone. Hooked the same headpones to my mac and it would sporadically open iTunes. Tossed the headphones, problem solved.
Hope this helps...

Jan 19, 2013 4:19 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by HdnMckee,I started having this problem as well. It appeared to happen when I had my apple earbuds plugged into the headphone jack. It made crackling noises and the volume of the online video I was watching was spontaneously going up and down. iTunes would spontaneously start. I kept closing the iTunes program and even completely shut down my iPad that was nearby. It continued to turn on. I unplugged the earbuds and stopped watching the video and it has seemed to stop. It's been over 30 min now.
I will plug in my earbuds now for an experiment and see if it comes on. Well it's been over 10 minutes and no spontaneous iTunes.
Hmmmm. I'm stumped.

Aug 31, 2013 5:02 PM in response to f0rgivenby strangelove1,I agree that it is definitely noise on the headphone jack that is causing this problem for me, I do not see, however, a fix... what is the fix?
