Actually it all rather depends what you want to use icloud for. I had a family pack of mobile me, and have migrated them all to icloud (rather than test it on myself), and I did it on a snow leopard machine and they all have snow leopard themselves. the calendars moved and the mail moved and the contacts moved and all works fine. The idisk and galleries have obviously gone. I don't however know anything about syncing - but if all you want to do is keep your @me.com address rather than tell everybody your new one, then you do not seem to have to upgrade to Lion

You are right in the calendar + contacts being in snow leopard but any changes to the contacts won't sync to your other devicies.
So if you depend on syncing iCal and Contacts to all your devicies you are in trouble.

Really No Lion = No iCloud
How come Windows = iCloud?
Why not Snow Leopard = iCloud (Must be simpler intergrating SN than Windoze)
This suxz bull dust!
Not just Lion. Must be 10.7.2 or higher. 10.7 does not have the iCloud in it's System Preferences.

YES, Pete is so correct.
APPLE has gone many steps backwards. I have been MobileMe user syncing wirelessly my iPhone and MBP, for at least six years. Support says to me: now a free iCloud service! Big deal only 5gb storage.
I have talked with support several times including today. Unless I change to a Lion compatible machine, I am SOL - now way to sync the way iCloud was designed.
Support has told me DO make issues known not just here, but call Apple Support.
For a previous poster: calendars may have moved, BUT make a change in one device, and test to see if it synced to the other. My test showed NOT syncing. They did walk me through how to sync when USB cable used with iTunes. It'll never be via iCloud.com wirelessly till I get Lion machine! Miserable predicament!
Apple, read, please.
