Q: iPhone 4S loses signal

TL;DR: iPhone loses signal completely with no apparent reason, rebooting helps, but 4 times in 8h is a bit too often.

Hey there,

I was very excited when I got the new iPhone 4S today. Unfortunately after 30min it didn't get any signal anymore. I live in a big city and have normally a very high signal strength. I let the iPhone search for the network provider a few times, but it didn't find anything (the iPad2 lying next to it had full signal strength).

Rebooting helped, but after another hour or so (and disrupting a call twice) it couldn't find any signal again. So I rebooted and there it was again. So all in all I had to reboot the phone about 4 times in 8 hours.

I couldn't find any similar problems in the forum so is this a unique problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? can I do anything against that?

Here are some additional infos:

Same problem here in Greece. I contacted with my provider (WIND) and they didn't know anything! Something must be done because I payed 800 euros and this problem is very serious - the phone is useless!!! That is unacceptable!

Try to change your SIM card. Providers usually do that for free. I did it two days ago, seems the situation became more stable. However, it may also be a coincidence

I have the same problem. The first day I started using the phone I lost signal and had to reboot. After that I started loosing signal and calls. Yesterday I was talking with my provider for many hours (using my land line since the line from iPhone4S was dropping). I did a reset and will test today.

    Provider: vodafone GR

    MicroSim: brand new

    Fix it please!

Update: vodafone sent me a new micro sim. Nothing changed. Now they will send courier to get my phone to service. If they find that there is a problem they will give me a new device. Lets see.

I bought 2 iphones 4s, one 16gb and another 32gb. The 32gb was losing signal within 5 min. and didnt get it unless i reboot it. It was taking more than 5 min to find signal. returned it to apple and got a new one. Working perfectly with the same sim used.

Now Im getting the same problem with the 16gb but less intensive. Im back to brazil and its hard to return it to canada.

My problem was fixed by replacing the iphone by a new one.

Same problem with white 16gb, unlocked

I bought 2x4s during my trip to Houston last week, unlocked version to replace our nearly new blackberry and Nokia. The black 4s is ok now and nice phone but real sudden loss signal problem with white color, no cover on and only way to fix is to reboot the phone.

I went to Bejing Apple store and they told that they will not do any service as I bought this outside of the country. And I can not return this to the store where I bought. I tried to reset the phone and sim as discussed above and see how it works. The sane sims I used on the non-iPhone and never have any problem.

    I need some solutions

Apple created an update for that problem. It was out last thrusday 15/12/2011. It worked for me. I updated yesterday and didnt had any issue since.

Backup your phone using icloud or itunes. Plug your phone to the computer and go to itunes and click restore. When you click restore it will ask if you want to restore and update, select that option. There is a new build of ios 5.0.1. Wait until it completes update. I updated my itunes to the last versions 10.5.2 before updating the phone.
