Help please.....questions before purchasing iPad -- can I use it in the car as a GPS?  And, where can I view a list of magazines available for iPad?

You'll need a 3G model if you want to use GPS.  WiFi-only models do not have built in GPS.

For magazine selection, look in the iTunes App Store under Newsstand.

The wifi only pad does not have a gps receiver.  The 3 g does.

To see a listmof magazines, go to the appmstore, and possibly the i book store and search magazines.   Alternatively, if there is a particular mag you are interested in, go to their sire. Mif they support pad subscriptions, they will probably say so on their website.

Look at the tech specs on this page.

To see what is available as far as magazines, you need to go to the newsstand store on the iPad.  So, if you're going in to an Apple Store, just check that out before you buy it.

If I just purchase a stand alone  GPS would I still need a monthly service to operate the GPS?

I don't believe so.  My Garmin GPS doesn't need a subscription.
