Did that, no help. Auto lock is set to auto lock after 1 minute. I have tried other time frames with no luck.
Pass code is set to simple passcode and I have entered my code in.
Not a newbie, have gone through most of the typical fix attempts. I want to avoid the drastic move of resetting to factory settings. That is akin to my bad old days using MS Windows and having to format the drive every 6 mos or so due to OS decay.
Google shows quite a few people started to have this issue with the release of iPhone 4 and iOS 5.

thx. I closed down the apps (should have written down the ones I had open) and now it works. It took the 4S 90 seconds to lock on a setting of 1 minute auto-lock but it did do it...better late than never.
Now the bigger concern is which app is the offender here?
Thanks for the suggestions all!

Okay that's good to hear, now it time to figure out what app was culprit. Just keep using your iPhone 4s normally then when it starts to act up again, start with the last app you launched.

you can also press the home key twice and it will display what apps are running. touch the apps, it should start shaking. touch the - (minus), it will close down the apps. discovered this my trial & error.

Is there anyone from Apple who can answer this question?
It is a real bug and I heard many friends have the same problem.
I saw in other thread that closing all apps can solve this problem, but I don't think it is a solution!
This must be fixed by Apple, not by closing all apps.

from my observation, it has to do with the assisstive touch setting. if the virtual ball is d last thing i touch on d screen, it wont auto lock, if not, it will auto lock. its happens only on ios6, it affects my 3gs,4s and 5

My daughter somehow managed to disable the pass code lock on my iPhone 4. I have pass code set to ON, and set to lock after 1 minute. When I put the phone to sleep, or just let it sleep on its own, when I awaken it, it does not require the pass code to unlock. I have had this phone for over two years and have never encountered this. I have tried shutting down every app, completely powering down the phone, turning off and then resetting the pass code, and nothing works. There is no profile setting on the phone. I have no idea what she did, other than I noticed that she double clicks the home button super fast, so I think it has to be something with pressing the home button more than once in quick succession. I have found some online references to bugs in iOS that allow bypassing of the pass code that involve some nonsense like double tapping the home button then making an emergency call and hitting the backspace key or something like that. I suppose she might have done that, but it beats me. I can't get it to work. Other ideas?

I tried and confirm that is assisstive touch makes my iphone4s did not auto lock. If I use assisstive touch for the last thing on my iphone such as: Home, my ip4s will not auto lock. But if I scroll to next page and back home page after use assisstive touch "home", my ip will auto lock.
