I am using address book v6.0 in Lion v10.7.

I am encountering what I think may be a bug.

I have created a smart group in address book. The condition of the smart group is “ Card has changed in 2 days”. The idea being that if a card has been modified or added in the last two days then it will appear in this group (which I have called “recent modifications”).

When I open the smart group it shows only the cards that have been modified in the last two days. BUT when I scroll up to another group and then scroll back down: several more names appear in the smart group.

I have done nothing but scroll up and re-scroll back down the smart group.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I don't have this issue.  But I have another issue with Smart Groups in 6.1

I have upgraded to Lion Address Book 6.1
I have a problem with a "Smart Group" not working.
I have created a Smart Group I call "Non-Group" by selecting:
Card = is not a member of = any group

I use this Smart Group to determine if I have not classified a contact in the 8 groups I have created.
This worked fine in Snow Leopard.

Now in Lion Address Book 6.1 it is not working?
I have tested adding contacts, but not adding them to a group.
The ungrouped contacts do not show up in my "Non-Group" Smart List.

    Any ideas?
    Or is this a bug?

I am experiencing the same issue.  Has anyone found a fix to this?

Having the same issue and no resolution yet.

    I did try the following:

I copied all contacts in all my many groups to one new catchall group I called GROUPED. This group should then contain all my contacts that are in any group. Then I created a smart group to isolate all contacts that are not a member of GROUPED, in other words the ungrouped ones. In essence a manual way to copy the process of using the "not in any group" option built into the smart group program.

The result was a group containing ALL contacts including the non-grouped ones. By the difference in card numbers between my GROUPED group and the total in "all contacts" I do now know that I have 53 ungrouped contacts, but I still have no way of finding them. Going down the list of several thousand contacts and hitting the option key at each one is not my preferred way out of this...

This smart group bug needs a quick fix.

A quick fix? Don't hold your breath, this has not worked for over two years now, lots of bug reports and still no fix.

I think this is a big bug.  I tried the same thing (creating a group for those cards with no group) and it displayed zero entries.  I then tried to create a new smart group "Card is not a member of __GROUP A___" + "Card is not a member of ___GROUP B____" and so on, and it totally crashed by Address book app resulting in the need to manually delete some smart group files out of my user library.

    What a pain!

When will this bug be fixed?

If anybody hears of a good workaround, let me know.

In the mean time, I'm going to go to the Apple feedback page and both submit this bug and also ask for an enhancement where you can select "show ungrouped cards" or similiar from the app's menu.

Was a very useful tool in 10.6, doesnt work in 10.7. Useless! I need to see the contacts added from my iphone that are added not in groups, and then put them into groups on the mac, but cannot see them! Have done the card<>member of<> any group

    FIX THIS APPLE Please!!!

I've got the same problem.  Smart group "not a member of any group" no longer works.  Same thing happened with 10.6.1, but it was fixed soon after.

Hi there, I am having trouble with this, so I presume it has not been fixed yet?

I am having the same problem since about 1 year ago. With the current version 7, I cannot have more than one smart group. Only the latest one I create will work.

I tried with different computer account but doesn't help

Interesting (and frustratingly), it works beautifully on my iMac! My son's contacts are configured with iCloud and the smart group is displayed on the left pane.
