Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

i solved my 4S battery drain problem this past weekend. ALARM CLOCK PRO the application is a severe battery drain on the 4S even w/ the newest software update. 20% overnight with the app open and the screen turned off, ~25%/hr under normal use with the app closed, etc. Just a massive drain. I deleted the app and now I have normal battery life (much like I had with the 4). I got so upset at Apple last week before I realized the issue was the ALARM CLOCK PRO app and demanded a new 4S. The new 4S had the same battery issue so I decided to delete ALARM CLOCK PRO. Check your apps. Some run even when they're not open.

Yes, of course, but there are various definitions of "worse".   What I saw with my 4s on Thankgiving was totally off the charts worse........    6 hours to chew up 85% of available battery with very light usage is unreasonable, for any phone.

I have 3-4 bars showing and using 3g my phone drops the battery 10% every 30 minutes of safari 3g usage.  this means about 5 hours of 3g usage not quite the 6 hours listed

But few if any smart phones acheive the rated battery life as stated by the manufacturer, so I would be totally happy with that 5 hours of continuous browsing.   I'm more concerned with only 6 hours of standby when connected to a marginal cellular signal and no wifi.........

My iPhone 4s battery was fine until I updated the software, then it started losing approx 15% per hour whilst not in use with no apps running, so I thought it must be software related, I started testing various applications, one which use gps etc etc, I finally, came to location services, system services and turned them all off, then one by one I turned them on,  I discovered that for day to day use I only needed traffic running so, that's how it is, email is on push, now Iam on 54% 16 hrs 2 mins standby and 7 hrs 42 minutes of actual usage,  Facebook, emails, you tube, safari, text, calls and using siri, with Bluetooth  on, using both wifi and 3G. Iam very satisfied with this.

    Hi cleoisis,

I never had my battery completely discharged and charged again. I never had to do this for my 3GS so I never did for my 4S.

Although this might help for some, I was never able to confirm it myself.

    Regards.

I tried photostream for two days, and during those two days my iPhone 4 battery was dry at early afternoon. And I am going to university, no talk or internet during that time... switched photostream off and no battery problems.

i posted about ALARM CLOCK PRO earlier today. however, i have a very weak cell signal at my office and my battery drains about 10% per half hour with very light use. At home last night connected to wifi, it drained 1% over 6 hours on standby. this is a massive failure by apple.

I'm not attacking you, however you just admitted to and proved what I've been saying all along.

You can't use the phone the way it's supposed to be used without tearing the battery apart to zero charge in less than half a day or so. You had to tweak it to the point where everything Apple said about the phone insofar as it's performance goes, is no longer true. You're OK with a tweak, so I was nevr referring to those like you, I was clearly referring to those who want a FIX. Those trolls on here can't seem to read for context.

Therefore, as I've seen time and time again on here, people just aren't happy. They get to a point where they're so tired of it they become complacent with a phone that's basically operating at 1/20th of it's specs, and that isn't right, any way you slice it. Whether you droped $100 or $800 on a phone, it should still work to, or very close to spec!

I can't answer (and personally I really don't care, the idiocy makes me laugh) as to why a certain few people on here can't grasp that concept, and choose to resort to ripping on people who state clear facts. It's a fact, we're 433 pages in on tips, advice and "hey I fixed it" comments about every way under the Sun to tweak this phone to get it to function to an at least somewhat acceptable rate.

Again, that isn't right. Were it a pacemaker you couldn't ever leave your home without fear of it tanking on you. And for many, their phones are their livelihood insofar as their businesses go. I, for one, could not have a phone that I could not rely upon as my business depends upon it and I could lose a TON of money if I can't keep in contact with my clients. So thankfully my phone isn't acting like this, is it performing up to par? No, it is, indeed, bad, however mine isn't as bad as some say on here.

Either way, nobody here can or will be able to fix it, and that's all I was saying all along, I simply stated that perhaps people should go out and enjoy life and wait for Apple to do what Apple is going to do, either fix it or not.

But people like 1apple and his ilk do all they can do dispute it, throw insults back and forth and claim I have no clue what I'm talking about...

... and yet here they still sit, as I said that they would be from day 1, with no fix from the users because users can't fix it, and they still throw insults and hyperbole at me.

It just makes me laugh! So go ahead guys, tell me how stupid you think I am, tell me how I have no clue what I'm talking about, because over 200 pages ago you said the same things and here you still sit, with no user-oriented fix. They'd rather take issue with the fact that some of us use uppercase letters to emphasize important words and think we're talking down to them becuase they have shattered egoes.

Good luck to those of you with all of that.

well said!  I don't like being talked down too either. I may not understand how to fix the iphone, but i do understand that i am unhappy with the battery life.  It is not what I expected.  Apple has said there is a problem, so how can anyone say there is not?.  I for one am impatient for a fix from apple, not some work around from the arm chair experts.  So for all of us who have spent our hard earned money and expected a product that performed up to advertised  spec's, I am waiting with you.

I never imagined you were attacking me, and I wouldn't dream of attacking anyone. I was just saying, this thread does have a purpose and it is helping provide a stopgap solution that Apple aren't. And your right, Apple are at fault here. I am pleased that the phone I have can now be used as a phone while I'm waiting for a permanent solution. Interesting though my phone's battery now matches my old phones performance, and the only tweak I did was to wipe the phone, and reinstall twice ( dont know why second worked and the first didn't) and not enable Siri. All other settings remain the same. Perhaps this version of IOS works on voodoo.

First off I am not an iPhone newbie.  I've had the 3g, 3gs, and now the 4S and this battery life is worst of all the phones.

Its been espically bad the last week or so.  No new apps added or deleted.

Before I use to be able to go an entire day without charging, now it is dead after a few hours.

I've started using the "usage" menu, and i've noticed that with no apps running.  When the phone is in standby it is being used.

If i charge my phone overnight to 100%, unplug at 7am.  Check at 9am with no use, it shows 2 hrs of standby and 2 hrs of use.  *** is being run in the background.
