Well seems like that rumor of iOS 5.0.1 is finally gone the way of the dog since developers got a beta of 5.1. So as stated earlier I suspect if you are filling up this thread with false post you are wasting your time. This would include creating a new set of post that link to particular post from poor or inaccurate sources.

The press is not going to touch the story due to poor or inaccurate sources. This includes links to members that do not own the device, stories that are contradictory based on posting in the discussion or completely inaccurate statements. Some offsite links implemented poor security with self signed certificates that may have exposed users OpenID.

Users who post have stated that they do not own the device or have made completely false statements and as such cannot be reliabe sources. This could include post on other boards unrelated to this device. For example a developer or registered user of one particular platform surely cannot be considered reliable or a user.

I would imagine that companies such as ZDNET or Affiliates of CBS Media would have strict rules related to sources and conflicts of interest. This is why reporters on ZDNET have their conflicts publicly posted.

    The original solution still stands.

    • Install 5.0.1 on your iPhone 4s.
    • Make sure you use a new SIM. <Do not cut down a SIMM>
    • Reset the device doing a hard reset and software reset.
    • Let battery drain and then charge for the full cycle, which is 24 hours.

Any other link you may want to consider the source, review the thread, users and cross reference of their comments.

    Thanks and good luck.

    In reply to DrStrangepork,

Is it possible my problem could be from the fact that I put the sim that was in my iPhone 4 into my 4S? And also how do I do a hard reset? And how is that different from a software reset?

Plug phone into itunes, turn off backup to cloud, turn off wi-fi sync and your battery will last for days

I already had icloud backup turned off, but following your advice, I turned off wi-fi sync and still have 57% power 36 hours later!  Definitely an improvement.  Re other thread about bluetooth - I always run my bluetooth so my phone will work hands free in my car.  Didn't have battery drain problem before update - which introduced icloud and wi-fi sync.

Haven't wrote in a while so figure I'd continues my banter. FIX THE BATTERY PROBLEM. I HAVE SERVERAL FREINDS AND FAMILY THAT HAVE THE 4S AND THEY SEEM NOT TO HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. I'VE DONE SIMILAR TESTING WITH ALL THE PHONES AND MY BATTERY DRAINS FASTER THEN THEIRS. FIX THIS NONSENSE APPLE.

I had the same problem in a big way!  I have an iPhone 4, and when I switched to IOS 5.0.1 all my problems started.  My full battery would drain in a couple of hours.  In addition, my iPhone started acting totally wierd.  When i went to my call app, it would redial the last number automatically!  Also, my carrier service stopped working!

After trying all possible configurations, this is what I did:

    0) Fully charged the batter; 1) a full reset - erasing all data; 2) restoring my last back-up; 3) deleted my iCloud account on my iPhone, removing all data from it; 4) setting location services to "on", but all apps to "off" except map & navigation. also, the "system services" under location services, all off except the cell network search;

I did all this last night 9 pm & ever since, my battery is back to normal. Such a relief!

Hope this helps someone - I went through ****!

My experience is that there is no solution besides paring down the useful features of my phone (i.e. shutting down services and features, thereby actively managing power use), and according to the responses on this board, I am not alone.  Dare I say there is no solution? I have tried all the purported fixes and none work for me.

Under normal circumstances when either I've turned off networking (i.e. turned ON airport mode) or the phone is always in good reception and has good internet connectivity, my 4S battery life is spectactular. The problem for my phone (extreme battery drain, 10% per hour) occurs when the cell signal is weak and internet connectivity is bad, or if my phone has no signal. My exprience supports the tests that prove the problem is a software issue.

Somewhere in this forum thread a posting was written to the effect that Apple do not read the forums. Perhaps officially this is true, but practically this is abjectly false. At least two Apple employees told me directly that they were calling me because they read my posts in this forum.

When i updated the 5.0 update, i didnt notice any issues with my battery life. My iphone 4 would hold a charge with average use for aprox 2 days. Once i installed ios 5.0.1, i noticed a drastic change. I now have to do a full charge daily. I really noticed it this morning when i took the phone off the charger. I took a 5 minute shower with the phone sleeping and came back to find the battery had already gone down 3% and i hadnt even used it. Hopefully apple will fix this or i may have to look elswhere.

I'm still collecting information about the battery life issue I've noticed, but I am almost completely certain I didn't have any problem whatsoever before I updated (from 4.something straight to 5.0.1) and I've been tearing my hair out since. While I'm still looking for evidence... I did the "backup" thing prior to the update, and I'd like to try going to Pre-5.0.1 if it's possible, and maybe necessary. (I tried this, and when I synced it automatically backed-up the iPhone again, so, maybe it overwrote the one I want to use :\ ) Is it possible; and how so?

also; interesting side-note that might deserve its own thread: I am finding *very* frequently my phone changes the word "so" to "do." I'm quite sure "so" is a word; and I use it often. (I just realized, tested, and confirmed that my phone is using a grammar-check so I can use its intelligence to differentiate from "it is" and "its, possessive" almost without fail. And watch this; it's working!)

Just to add to this thread and show Apple just how many unsatisifed iPhone 4S owners are out there, I too am having horrendous battery problems.  I have gone from a trusty 3G, which always lasted a few days on a charge, to a 4S which seems to last just a few hours and I use it for the same stuff as I used my 3G for... Is Apple technology going backwards??? Apart from my 3G getting a bit slow towards the end it did me well for 2 years.

I am generally charging my phone overnight every night, the batttery is then down to about 20% by the afternoon so I have to plug it in at work for a few hours to top up.  I don't even use my phone for work, just a few texts and maybe a check of emails, facebook or safari during lunchtime!!  It seems to be far far worse after updating to 5.0.1.

Yesterday I did a check and I had sent approx. 10 texts, used 0.2 MB of data, had 1 hr 4m of useage and 8 hours standby and it was completely flat... lucky I didn't break down on my way home from work or I would have been stuck... it defeats the object of a mobile phone.

I have today turned off wifi, all notifications, location services, turned brightness right down and switched email to manual fetch.  It is marginally better (only lost 20% in 37 mins useage and 5 hours standby!).  But what is the point in having an iPhone if you have to switch off all the features to make it last through a day??

Come on Apple, this needs to be dealt with ASAP!

Apple's continued silence is infuriating.  They pushed an update that made things so much worse for many people and now refuse to come out and acknowledge the continuing problems.

One has to wonder...what would Steve have done :(

Seriously, is anyone actually reading these??? ITS NOT A 4S PROBLEM. ITS JUST A BUG IN THE FIRMWARE!!!!!! If you turn off the Wireless Sync feature and/or iCloud feature, the problem seems to resolve itself. Why are people still whining about it. Just turn those off and wait for the fix. Its funny how you can expect them to fix the bug overnight. Does nobody understand it can take time to find the problem and fix it. They are in no way obligated to make a statement about the bug or when its going to be fixed. Just turn those settings off and wait for the fix!!!!!
