My battery performance got a lot better after inserting a new Sim card.

When I recieved my iPhone 4s I used the Sim card from my previous iPhone and the battery would lose approximately 10% per hour. With the new Sim card the battery loses 2% per hour (no tweaks to save battery-power). The CPU load however still remains above 51% compared to 12% for the iPhone 4 (standby mode). The battery performance is not as good as the iPhone 4 but very acceptable and OK for me.

    iOS 5.0.1

    Carrier: T-Mobile Netherlands

Thank you RogerfromFrance, you provided the solution that works for me.

    Hey All,

I went through most if not all the suggestions and nothing stood out as a cure all.

I only saw improvement when I dissabled wifi syncing on itunes & icloud services. Ever since then my stand by time has gone from @ 8% loss an hour to @ 1-1.5%. During normal to excessive use on my 4S I still am not happy with the drain but I am better off now than a week ago. I do activate icloud on a need to basis, mostly to just back up the phone but turn it off other wise. Most of the suggested fixes I did have been toggled back to normal settings. Except Settings Time Zone and Location Based iAds they are still off. All push and notifcation center info remains on.

       Hope this helps.

I charged my 4s 48 hrs. ago, then just let it sit for 24 more. I didnt use it at all! I picked it up today, and it was completely dead ! My iphone 4, has great battery life, i can get 3-4 days of use between charges. I am stunned @ the miserable performance of my 4s!!! What am I supposed to do?

Is it good enough to have 12 hours of standby time, 6.5 hours of usage and drops about 6% overnight? This is just my first iPhone.

Did you keep getting new ones? They all seem very resistant to do anything and folks at the Apple Store told me this problem wasn't real and just a "couple of folks" on the net complaining.  I upgraded from a 4 to a 4s with Verizon on 11/4. Battery issues popped up the 2nd week after the 5.01 update. As I went on a cruise the 3rd week I didn't get back to Verizon till 12/1. I wanted to swap for a 4 and they won't allow that--they changed their return policy this year from 30 days to 14. I then went to Apple. They won't downgrade either and wouldn't swap out since I hadn't done a FULL restore. They did that at store and sent me on my way. Battery still stinks. Hate to go back (long wait times) to just get another phone (have to set it all up) and have the same thing happen.

Many of us now are STUCK with these phones and monthly data plans but can only partially utilize them due to terrible battery life. Unfortunately Apple does not step up to the plate on these issues as demonstrated in the past. Class action suit may be the best recourse.

glad to know i helped you.

Although i am now satisfied with my 4S, however, I continued

to read messages here and a have learned some interesting

things: Most of those who have solved their problems

using a new SIM card is because they used before

their old card may be downsized to micro Sim format.

On page 443  are displayed 2 pictures showing differences.

Someone has also explained that problem is comming

from the card reader wich could be not the same on all

    4S.

    Hi rogerfromfrance,

The micro sim card on the right (with the arrow) is my old micro sim card that I took from my iPhone 4 and put into my iPhone 4s. With this micro sim I experienced a 10% battery drain an hour.

The micro sim card on the left is the new micro sim that improved my battery performance to approximately 2% battery drain an hour.

You'll notice that the print lay-out on the new micro sim is different. Maybe the new micro sim card works better with the sim reader in the iPhone 4s resulting in a better performance.

Where is Apple on this issue? Why don't they post here? Everyone I know has the problem.  I am getting 4 hours or less of batter time.  Drains at 25-30 percent per hour.  This is terrible, and it seems link Apple is just ignoring all the posts.

I have been a long time Apple user and recently upgraded to the 4S from the 4.  I am easily loosing 10% battery life every hour with little to no usage.  I see a lot of people looking for the magic fix and wonder why?  If the options are on the phone shouldn't the phone work and the user community not be the ones to find the solution?  Several of my friends who upgraded to the the 4S are experiencing battery issues as well, and this is the first time I have ever seen them contemplating dropping Apple for another OS.

Did you try to turn off the cellular data (wifi can stay on)? Does this make any difference?

just spoke with Apple and they advised turn off "Setting Time Zone" under location services. This Apply says is the problem child!!!!

This has work for me only a 3% drop over night and have 55% left after a full day

Wow... I had heard about the "battery issues" with the 4S, but nothing like the horror stories I'm reading here... I just assumed it was "quicker draining battery" and not "absolutely abhorrent" stuff like this. That's ridiculous what I'm reading. I would be super p*ssed off; I feel for you all, that must suck.

I only have an iPhone 4, but I had no battery complaints or issues whatsoever until I upgraded to the 5.0.1 firmware the was supposed to improve battery life?! Destroyed mine. Nothing like some of you, I almost feel bad even mentioning mine but yeah, significant WORSENING of battery life from 5.0->5.0.1 somehow. Want to revert to 5.0 firmware but that would be too much trouble. I would say it drains at least 2x-3x faster than it did with the original 5.0 firmware. During most times (unless I need to use them) I have location services cut off, 3G/cellular data cut off, bluetooth off, mainly all I keep on is wi-fi. I never play games.

I'd like to keep location services on cause it's a pain to toggle, but I'm worried it might make things worse. I'm not sure how much it would affect things in reality, I just err on the side of caution. Notifications too, I keep any non-essential ones shut off completely. Oh, and my brightness stays at the absolute lowest level and auto adjust set to off unless it's sunny outside and I can't see the screen otherwise.

The two things I didn't consider were what was mentioned, I just read iTunes wifi sync... I thought it wasn't supposed to sync unless it was plugged into a power source and charging? Or maybe that was iCloud backup? I don't know but I get that stupid 0x80000007F error all the time cause of wifi sync, so I might as well turn that off. So much for the wireless way, huh?

Most times I am near wi-fi, so I can keep 3G off... unless I'm on the road... the only thing I hate about 3G is that you can do everything fine except send MMS messages! every time I want to send a picture or something over text, I've gotta go in there and cut that on -- irritating. That's the only thing I can tell will explicitly FAIL without 3G on (other than a bit less accurate GPS'ing).

Hopefully they find out what's wrong and soon, I can't believe this thread is nearly 500 pages!!! The sad truth is, that doesn't matter to Apple. There was some previous issue a few years back where people were claiming Apple was deleting threads about the subject, and even though the main one was like 1,000 pages... they still wouldn't admit to the problem! Typical of them. Very typical.

The flawed rationale is that this thread here... this is only 500 people out of a few million that own a 4S? that's but just 0.00001% of users. It's not a real problem. Asinine logic, right there. No, 500 people are smart enough to make their way onto these boards, bother to make an account (trouble for them to do), find the right thread, and actually post about it. Most people either aren't capable enough to do that, or simply figure Apple already knows about the issue and has a fix on the way STAT, so they aren't going to go through the trouble to get on here and go through all that if they feel the problem will be fixed soon.

Naive. Obviously not familiar with Apple and their "we'll fix things when we feel like it" or actually... after the problem becomes undeniable, then we'll take our time. The first step is always total denial of the issue, second is minimizing the scope of the issue, then after it starts hitting TV and major news sites regularly, then they don't want the bad press so they chip away at it for a few weeks/months (sometimes releasing more important patches like blocking competitors from being able to connect to itunes or whatever that crap was that one time?) -- anything threatening their vice grip on control is immediately stifled. Major issues... they're taken care of after those type of stupid things. It sickens me as much just to read all these troubles and know that they couldn't give a you know what, really... They're now a TRILLION dollar company. The first. They bust a nut on your feeble little iPhones. Just to profane them and laugh. Ahahaha. Clean it up, idiot! Evil empire.

bleepingApple, Sorry for the late response. My wife has an iPhone 4 running 4.3.3 (I have told her not to update it). Her Modem Firmware(which I believe is where the baseband communication runs) is at version 4.10.1 whereas on my iPhone 4s it is at 1.0.13. So obviously they have different modem hardware.
